Yvan Gaudette, Acadian patriarch, born at home in Quebec City, passed away on June 23, 2024, at the age of 91. He leaves behind the love of his life, Joan Newman, after 65 years of marriage, his beloved daughter Malaika (Chris), and his two sons of whom he was very proud, Alex and Éric, along with their cherished wives Renée and Sophie. He also leaves behind his four sisters, Nicole (Dr. Bernard Leboeuf), Maryse (Léo Normand), Francine (Jean Demers) and Ghyslaine (Dr. Rino Cianciulli), an impressive number of grandchildren, Claire (Charlie), Angela (Dr. Fermin), Julien, Francis (Julia), Caroline (Simon), Philippe, Leah (Jonathan), Sebastian, Alexandre (Joly-Ann), Hugo, Rosalie (Marc-André), Mathieu (Mélanie), Fannie (Shawn), Maxim, as well as a few great-grandsons and great-granddaughters, nieces and nephews and many members of the family and friends. Sadly, his two eldest sons, Daniel Patrick (Bernadette) and Marc Edouard (Nathalie), predeceased him. He will finally join them in the Chelsea cemetery.
A chartered accountant by training, Yvan quickly became interested in international development, a field in which he worked for 55 years. During this time, he lived for 11 years in Africa with his adventurous wife, contributing with her to the establishment of two national universities. Yvan launched the creation of INTOSAI (IDI), the supreme Audit Institute and the Foundation's Executive Secretary, visited several countries either as Deputy Auditor General of Canada or as a consultant and expert advisor to assess the feasibility of assistance to the audit offices of developing nations. The visits were designed to better understand the needs and long-term objectives of these offices. Mr. Gaudette discussed the Foundation and its plans with officials in Kenya, Rwanda, Cameroun, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Morocco and China.
Mr. Gaudette’s tenacity and his commitment to the practice of audit internationally, along with his lifelong commitment to education and training have left an indelible mark on the profession of audit worldwide. During this period, several of 184 fellow participants coming from 52 countries became Auditors General in their respective nations.
He was particularly proud that several of his grandchildren, while studying, traveled to many foreign countries at a very young age with their backpacks.
He had no intention of leaving this world at such a young age (he was 91 years old), but it is one of the few events in his life that he could not control!
Although he is not too sure where he will end up after his death, he hopes that one day he will reunite with his wife, Joan, his daughter and his four sons, as well as all the family members he has loved and continues to love deeply.
Yvan Gaudette will be profondly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, love, and remarkable achievements.

My deepest condolences to all of you. I was Mr. Gaudette's travel agent for many years, from the 1980's, ( formerly Tin-Bo Travel, and then Can Air World Travel ). I came to know your family as well because I was also doing the personal travel arrangements besides the business trips. I remember going to the funeral services of Alex and Dan and meeting all of you. I would also deliver tickets to the house back in those days ( no E tickets ). Even though we have not been in contact the last 10 years or so, I still remember Mr. Gaudette with fond memories. He was an intelligent man, with a great sense of humour, and friendly and caring. He will be missed dearly.
What a lovely man! It was impossible not to love Yvan. I am so deeply sorry for your loss.
