Castillo Hi, Yuriko

CASTILLO HI, Yuriko

1967 - 2023

Yuriko Maass Castillo-Hi, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on June 20, 2023, leaving a profound impact on those who loved her.

Yuriko was born on September 23, 1967, in Mexico to Maria-Luisa Saucedo and Raúl Castillo Hi. She embraced her role as the eldest daughter, growing up in Chihuahua with her brother Tadashi and later guiding Aryet and Arysha, daughters of Raúl and Patty.

Yuriko lived in many cities during her youth, cultivating life-long friendships at her middle school ESBIN and participating in an exchange to Switzerland at the age of 16.

She pursued her higher education at the prestigious Tech de Monterey University where she completed her degree in Computer Systems and Administration in December 1990. As a talented athlete, Yuriko excelled on the university’s basketball team. She was beloved by the student body which was evident as she was elected Queen of her generation.

On October 17, 1992, Yuriko joined her life with Gustavo Maass in a bond of love. Their marriage served as an example to others, with their unwavering commitment and deep affection for each other shining through until her last day. They were a great team that lived life to the fullest.

Together, they had three beautiful daughters—Constanza, Catalina, and Carolina. Yuriko instilled in her daughters the values of chasing their dreams, standing up for what they believe in, and embracing love and kindness.

In 2002, Yuriko and Gustavo made the brave decision to move to Canada, driven by their desire to provide a safe and fulfilling future for their daughters.

She showered her children with unconditional love, and also opened her heart and home to many others, fostering an environment of cultural exchange and understanding. Her selflessness and generosity knew no bounds.

Professionally, Yuriko excelled at CGI for over 20 years, where her intelligence, work ethic, and kind demeanor earned her respect and prestigious awards.

Outside of work, Yuriko became the President of the Markham Synchro Club, guiding the club's tremendous growth and success.

In 2021, Constanza entered into a loving marriage with Alex Gamm, who became a cherished son to Yuriko as well.

Yuriko was known for her infectious laughter and radiant smile. Her positive outlook on life, combined with a sense of humor touched everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.

Yuriko's strength and grace were unparalleled, and her departure has left a void in our lives, but her spirit will forever live on in our hearts.. She will be deeply missed by her husband, Gustavo, her children, Constanza, Alex, Catalina, and Carolina, as well as her extended family and friends.

In this time of grief, we will remember Yuriko's remarkable spirit and the profound impact she had on our lives. May her legacy serve as a reminder to cherish our loved ones and embrace life's challenges with resilience and kindness.

A funeral service to honor Yuriko's life will be held on Saturday, July 1st, 2023 at 6:00 PM at Coopérative Funéraire de L'Outaouais 1369 Bd la Vérendrye O, Gatineau, QC. A memorial mass will take place on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 1:00 PM at St. Luke's Parish 39 Green Ln, Thornhill, ON. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate her memory and share stories of the beautiful moments we shared with her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Pancreatic Cancer Canada and/or La Maison des Collines, the palliative care home that cared for Yuriko in her final days.

Rest in peace, dear Yuriko. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Dear Gustavo, Constanza, Catalina, and Carolina

I am so grieved at the loss of our dear Yuriko. She was an amazing lady and I am so privileged to have known her. I was always a pleasure to work with her and her friendship (and your family's) to me and our family is something special. All of us are so sorry for your loss. I will never forget our Saturday get togethers at Sushi and Rolls, when she, Janice, Ann and I would get together as often as we could. (It wasn't very often as everyone's schedules were always so hectic!) I loved her smile and amazing zeal for life and excellence. She will be greatly missed. Love you guys.

Dear Gustavo, Constanza, Catalina, and Carolina

I had the privilege of meeting Yuriko in elementary school in Chihuahua City, where we became good friends. And even though after "Colegio Palmore" I lost track of her, I was fortunate enough to renew this friendship at Monterrey Tec Campus Chihuahua, where we met again. We immediately were able to remember each other.
She was still full of life, happiness and goodness. She was indeed a wonderful person, a fantastic human being.
I just learned this sad news today, nonetheless I know for a fact that Heaven is a better place now that she is there.
You have my deepest condolences.
