Quinton, Thomas "Tom"

QUINTON, Thomas "Tom"

1956 - 2022

It is with deep sadness, that we announce the passing of Thomas Joseph Quinton on Wednesday, November 16th, 2022.

After a lengthy, complicated and a very courageous health battle, Tom took his last peaceful breath at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, at the age of 66.

Predeceased by his Father, Laurence (Larry)Arthur Quinton (1999), and his baby brother, Timothy (Tim)Laurence Quinton (2000), he sadly leaves behind his beloved mother, Irene Quinton of Kirkland Lake, his sister Darlene Quinton, his niece Samantha (Marcel) Langlois and his proud role as “Uncle Tom”, to Owen, Ashton, Sawyer and Birdie.

It was in Matagami, Quebec where Tom would perfect his skills in hockey, baseball, lacrosse, golfing - and of course - his true passion of curling. During his lengthy time curling, whether it was weekly draws or bonspiels, he was always visible on the ice. Tom’s work life commenced in Matagami, Quebec as the arena manager, known by many as the “Iceman”.  It was very evident that he enjoyed his job because of his immense love and passion for the rink…

Tom relocated to Kirkland Lake in 1993, and quickly found his new sacred spot at the Kirkland Lake Curling Club where he enjoyed curling most, but you could also find him tending bar and being around his second family he called his friends.
Many didn’t know but Tom loved baseball and everything involved and could also be seen on the ball fields whenever he was needed to umpire in baseball tournaments.

As stubborn as Tom could be, he was loved by everybody and was best known to be a gentle soul and that’s what everyone admired most about him.

In honour of Tom’s wishes donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.

the Quinton Family and Friends

So sad to read and hear about Tom, just finished talking to him up at the KDH a couple of weeks ago, and things were not the greatest with him. We have been curling friends since he came here, curled with him, drank beer with him and shared lots of stories. He certainly battled against the odds, had even a transplant which he got a few good years out of it, his appearance will certainly be missed around the KLCC, so sorry for the loss.

Tom was a great guy and I loved curling against him. The time I enjoyed the most was working bingos with Tom and Bearcat. We would talk about all sports and Tom was quite knowledgeable. The little old ladies at the bingo hall loved him too as Tom was also a bingo player. Thinking of Tom puts a smile on my face and he will be missed on the ice and behind the bar.

I am saddened to see you have passed Tom.
Tom was a very, very close friend of mine and we shared many things together. He was always there for me through thick and thin. He was a great listener and had a kind soul. I watched him curl at the curling club that he enjoyed so much. We laughed, we cried and we shared many long conversations and great moments together. We sure did many ventures together. Fun outings. His sufferings are over and “May He Rest In Peace”. Until we meet again Tom on the other side. You will always be a big part in my heart.
Sincerely;
Sunshine
