There she spent 17 years, which including the period of time when she earned her Bachelors of Science and Bachelors of Education at St. Francis Xavier University. Fran was inspired to pursue her Post Grad Education at the University of Ottawa, where she earned an Honors Masters Degree in the field of Education and Counselling. She fell in love with the Ottawa region, and continued to share her skills for another 15 years as a teacher in a variety of Middle and High Schools.

When she had time to spare she would be making a home cooked meal for her friends whom she adored. Her fun-loving and playful side kept Byron on his toes. They shared a common interest in cheering on their home team favorites, the Ottawa Senators. Nevertheless, Fran always maintained a special place in her heart for Sidney Crosby, a native of her adored Nova Scotia.
She treasured the company of her many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Byron and Fran spent 38 blessed years together and enjoyed many summers in Cape Breton with friends and family.
