FOSTER, Stefanie

1965 - 2024

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our dear friend Stefanie Foster on November 4th, 2024, at the age of 59.

The beloved daughter of the late Anthony P Foster and of the late June R.M. Williams, Stefanie passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long battle with diabetes and medical complications that stemmed from her condition. Stefanie was predeceased by her cousins, Henry Mamo, June (Mamo) Turbide, Jean Turbide, and Phillipe Turbide.

Stefanie leaves behind many family members and friends whom she truly loved and cherished.

Stefanie was the true essence of life. Her love of animals, tenacity to overcome any obstacle that impeded her progress, constant love of learning and sense of humour made Stefanie the wonderful person that we will forever remember with loving hearts.

A celebration of Stefanie's life will be held at the Bistro Mexicana 129, 129  Principale Street in Gatineau (Aylmer sector) on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024 at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Outaouais SPCA or La Resource can be made for those who wish to do so, as these are charities that Stefanie held close to her heart.

Online condolences may be made at www.cfo.coop

Friends and relations of Stefanie Foster

It is so sad that at the relatively young age of 59, Stef was finally taken from us. Stef was always positive and making the best of life with a love of horses, and meeting and chatting with friends and family. In later years, due to her type one diabetes which started when she was a baby, her health deteriorated resulting in the loss of both lower legs. Never-the less, Stef always made the best she could out of her life and was an inspiration to all around her.
Apart from her love of horses, Stef enjoyed being outdoors and exercising with her wheelchair. She loved cooking and baking knowing many mediterranean recipes passed on by her late mother June.
Despite being reliant on a wheelchair, she flew from Ottawa to London in 2022, accompanied only by her wheelchair, for a month's holiday with us in the UK. She enjoyed the outings along the Dorset coast, seeing the wild ponies in the New Forest and visiting Queen Victoria's summer palace on the Isle of White. In the evenings we played dice or Rummicub at the kitchen table and talked and laughed. Her love of life was very clear.
When she returned to her flat in Gatineau, her passion was to start a large aquarium in her living room using it as a room divider. Her knowledge of aquatic plants and fish was extensive and she started cultivating the new tank plants, a process she told me which would take several months. Alas, in April 2024 she had serious leg pains which required further amputation. She went into hospital just before her 59th birthday never to return to her flat and aquarium again.
Stef was a marvellous fun loving person who I'm proud to say was my cousin. Hopefully she will now be in a better place free from bodily pain and restrictions, surrounded by all that she loves. God bless you Stef. Until we meet again.
Bryan & Nati xx

Sharon and other Cousins

Stef was not only a wonderful neighbor but also a dear Friend.
She will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Stef had many friends.
She was truly remarkable. I used to tell her that she was the strongest person I had ever met - and I meant it. She didn't feel sorry for herself - each new medical challenge was just another obstacle to overcome. I was amazed by Stef's strength, physically, emotionally and intellectually.
She had the gift to inspire others and I was one of those fortunate people. She shared her scientific knowledge and her hard-earned life wisdom. Stef loved a challenge. I valued her wonderfully honest nature.
Her love of a good joke and clever dry comical comments were always fun.
Stef dearly loved Momma and Joy and her fish. She couldn't wait to get home to her new condo. I was so sure she would.
Since our condos face each other, we'd sometimes wave from our windows and join each other for a visit.
The last time I saw Stef was in hospital. She valued visits and also enjoyed receiving her favorite and very specific McDonald's burgers with mango smoothies.
I won't be alone in missing Stef. Her kindness, generosity, friendship, inspiration were truly gifts to all of us. She loved her cousins. She also loved those of us who were fortunate enough to be called "Friend" by Stef.
This first Christmas will be very difficult. We will have to imagine her over-decorated Christmas tree, that was always a delight to see. I'd watch for the lights to be turned on.
We'll pretend it is lit up, as usual, until March.

One of Stef's friends,
Blythe
