ARMSTRONG, Sheila

1945 - 2023

Sheila Irene Armstrong (née Barstead) passed away peacefully, in her home, on November 24, 2023, at the age of 78, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Born on March 4, 1945, in Aberdeen, Scotland, Sheila was a beloved member of her community.

She was predeceased by her dad, Clifford Barstead, her mom, Ada Barstead, her sister Doreen (Bob) Ash and her beloved fur baby, Mickey. She is survived by her loving husband; Terry, her children; Tom (Angie), and Cori (Ron). She is greatly missed by her grandchildren Braden, Ethan, Camrin, Thomas, Hudson, Peyton (Sweetpea), Ryan and Aria. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother Rob (Karen) Barstead.

A Celebration of Life will be held at her cherished cottage in the Spring/Summer of 2024 to honour Sheila's memory and the impact she had on the lives of those around her.

Sheila will be remembered for her kind and compassionate nature, always offering a helping hand to those in need. She was deeply devoted to her family and friends, finding joy in spending time with loved ones and creating lasting memories together.

Sheila's warm smile and vivacious personality brightened the lives of those who knew her. She had a passion for gardening and spent countless hours tending to her beautiful flowers and vegetables at the lake. Sheila's green thumb was admired by many, and her garden served as a source of inspiration and tranquility for all who visited.

Throughout her life, Sheila touched the hearts of many through her generosity and selflessness. She will be greatly missed but forever remembered for her unwavering love and kindness.

A special thank you goes out to the many caregivers who watched over Sheila so that she would remain comfortable in
her own home.

The Celebration of Life will provide an opportunity for family and friends to gather and share stories, memories, and laughter in honour of Sheila's life. May her spirit continue to live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.

Donations in her memory can be made to the Kirkland Lake Curling Club.

Terry, Tom and Family, and Cori and family.

I am not sure how to say what I wish to say. Sheila and I are only 6 months apart in age. As we became friends over the years since she started at the Northern Daily News she was like another sister to me. She was both my Guardian Angel and my rock while I was going through health issues as I tried to be for her. Saying I will miss her seems so trite when I feel my heart aching knowing I will never hear her voice again. Rest In Peace my dear friend/sister. I hope they have phones up there as we spent many hours some days talking on it until the battery would crash and it would have to be put back on the base to recharge. Until we meet again (up there) Sheila I will be keeping you in my Prayers.

Terry, Tom and Cori, and your families

I remember Sheila fondly for giving me my first job as her shampoo "girl" in her hair dressing shop. It was the mid 60's and the beehives were still the rage. That was considered a shampoo and set and it cost $3.00. ($2.50 without the shampoo). Times sure have changed but that shop was a going concern and that was down to Sheila's happy disposition. Life takes over and we lost touch but it is clear from reading these condolences that Sheila loved her family and kept that joy of working creatively.
My heart felt condolence as you travel through this difficult time,

My deepest heartfelt condolences go out to you you all at this sorrowful time. I have known Sheila for many years and first met her while curling. She always had a smile on her face and welcomed new friends unconditionally. I had the pleasure of meeting with her to have a pleasant visit while cutting her hair every couple of months and considered her a true friend. I will certainly miss you Sheila...may you rest in peace.
