It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ross Montgomery, who was surrounded by loved ones, on May 15, 2023.
Ross was the son of George and Dorcas Montgomery, both of whom preceded him in death. He will be so deeply missed by his daughters Kaitlyn (Lukas), Sarah, and Rachel; his beloved granddaughter, Briar; girlfriend Brigitte; former spouse and friend, Nancy; his sister, Laura (Mike); his brother, Brian; and a circle of friends and loved ones. He deeply loved and was so proud of his daughters and his family.
Ross was born and raised in Ottawa and attended Bell High School. He joined the Armed Forces at 18 years old and spent much of his professional life working in communications in Ottawa; he also lived in Inuvik, Gander, and was posted several times to CFS Alert. Despite his service, he was a self-proclaimed hippy who casually practiced Jainism. After his retirement from the Armed Forces, he grew a beard and kept his hair long. He spent the last years of his working life at the Canadian Border Services Agency and enjoyed working and living downtown.
Ross had a quick wit and dry sense of humour. He had many interests and was a lover of an eclectic variety of music, history, and a fine scotch. For many years he had a longstanding breakfast date with his daughter Sarah on the weekend and was one of her best friends. He enjoyed spending time riding his motorcycle and took many trips throughout and across Canada and the United States – what he loved most was the journey and the open road.
We would like to extend our thanks to the staff in the ER, ICU and at the Cancer Centre at the General Hospital, for their care and compassion.
A celebration of life will be held at the Montgomery Legion, at 330 Kent Street, on Sunday June 11 from 1-4PM. In lieu of donations, please raise a glass in his honour and spend time with your loved ones to celebrate Ross’ life.
