Black, Rodney " Rod "

BLACK, Rodney " Rod "

1954 - 2023

It is with profoundly heavy hearts that we announce the sudden, peaceful passing of Rodney Black, at his home in Charlton, Ontario.

Rod was born in Englehart, Ontario on April 4, 1954 to Merlin and Jean (Gibson) Black.

Rod lived for playing hockey as a child, and had many happy memories of summers spent at their family cottage at the head of Long Lake.  From age 18 on, he worked as a Brakeman for the Ontario Northland Railway.  After retiring, he formed a band with Michael Montminy and Aldo Tarini. The “Plaidiator,” Rod had a penchant for wearing head to toe mismatching plaid.

Rod is survived by his wife Sharon (DeVries), who he loved “more than there are mosquitoes in Northern Ontario;” children Connie Black (Anna Chamberlain), Stephanie Black, and Micheal Black (Erin Egan-Randall); grandchildren Luna and Juniper Nuedling-Black, and Jack Fisher; siblings Merrlyn Morris (Bill) and Dalton Black (Claudette); close friends Bryan and Jennifer Borecki; along with many brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

As per Rod’s wishes cremation has occurred. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Sharon and all your family

I am so sorry to hear of this Sharon..My heartfelt condolences to you and all your family for your loss... always looked back fondly on Rod’s friendship with me in early public school years, to his kindness and help when I was a total greenhorn trying out at the onr. He was a guy with old fashioned integrity, none of us are perfect in life we all have faults but he was at bottom line , a damn good man, a mans man and someone I always respected.... I was always happy he was with a gal as lovely a person as you are.....sometimes the universe got it right.... may you be surrounded with love and support to help you through this time.... your all in my thoughts..... Sharon and Family....Dalton, Merrlyn and Families.

We are sorry to hear of Rod's passing. I (Dean) spent time with Rod when we were younger, with days spent up at the head of Long Lake, fishing in a steel flat bottom boat with a 5 HP Johnson pushing us around to the fishing spots Rod knew well. Condolences to all. You are in our thoughts, and prayers at this sad time.

family of Rod,

Hi my name is Joseph Coffin,

I have purchased the voice machine from Paul and he was sharing with me about your loss.

I am looking forward to receiving the machine and using it in my music. I play mostly gospel where we make a joyful noise unto the Lord Jesus.

I plan to be praying to God for you all. God has made each one of you and wants to share eternity with each of you, through the saving life of Jesus. (stepstopeacewithGod.org)

Love and prayers,

Joseph (902-388-6197)
