1942 - 2021

It is with great sadness that his family announces that their beloved Robert (Bob) Charles Donald Climie passed away suddenly on April 16, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Leslie Climie. He is predeceased by his daughter Erin and will be greatly missed by his children Calvin (Heather), Jock (Virginia), Adam (Yvonne) and Gavin along with his grandchildren Leah, Maeven, Jaden, Lilly and Ella and his siblings Christine Johnston (Bruce) and Shane (Shelley) . Bob grew up in Red Rock, Ontario and then attended high school at Port Arthur Collegiate in Thunder Bay. His passion and talent as a football player took him to Lakehead University, Montana State and then finally to Queens where he was a star football player from 1963 to 1969. Bob was a co-captain of the Queens Golden Gaels 1968 Vanier Cup champions – a team he was immensely proud of and stayed connected with for the rest of his life. After obtaining his medical degree from Queens in 1970, Bob went on to a career as a physician in the military for thirty years, retiring as a Colonel. He obtained his fellowship in community medicine in 1989. In retirement, Bob was in constant motion and truly loved spending time at his cottage in Delta Ontario as well as his family cottage at Silver Islet. He was passionate about volunteering, fitness, music and read constantly on various eclectic topics, including social justice and the environment. Bob was the quintessential renaissance man who could also build or fix just about anything. Always there to lend a hand to those in need, he will be incredibly missed by his family and the long list of people who called him friend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Huntington’s Society of Canada in support of finding a cure for the terrible disease that took his daughter Erin far too early.

I never had the pleasure of meeting your father but both our father's were Colonel's in the military and had wonderful and crazy ideas to make this world a better place for his kids and all generations to come. They don't make men like this anymore and I'm so sorry for your huge loss. His legacy will live on.

Leslie, the loss of your Bob comes as a huge shock to me. The support you both gave to me and my wife, Dee, as she traveled through her unfortunate prognosis will never be forgotten and continues to be so much appreciated. The influence Bob had on all of us in the military during our respective careers was absolutely profound and we are so much healthier because of his dedication and effective communication skills. Leslie, Jock and Family

Bob was a caring Queen’s Golden Gael alumnus. He was giving with his time. I enjoyed working closely with Bob as Captain of his 1968 Golden Gaels Football team. It was important for him to continue his legacy as captain and lead his team alongside his friend Ron Brooks to support today’s Gaels Football team. I will miss Bob his humour and wit.
