BARNES, Robert

1939 - 2024

In Loving Memory of Robert Walter Barnes ♥ Aka Bob, Buffalo, Papa Smurf, and Grumpy

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Walter Barnes on November 19, 2024 at Blanche River Health, surrounded by “his girls”.

Born in England, Bob journeyed to Canada as a young boy with his family, settling in the Pembroke-Eganville area. He met and married the love of his life, Janet Kazur, and together they made their home and raised their family in Kirkland Lake, where they resided for an incredible 65 years of marriage.

Bob leaves behind his loving wife, Janet, née Kazur; his cherished daughters, Cherryl (Eric) and Kathryn (Donny); and his adored granddaughter, Aliana, who was truly the apple of his eye.

He is also survived by his brothers, Gerald (Lorraine), Douglas (Kathy), Johnny (Betty-Anne), and Ron, as well as sister-in-law Diane.
He was predeceased by his mother, Lilian Barnes; his son, Michael; father and mother-in-law, Michael and Rose Kazur; brothers James Adams (Joan) and Brian Barnes; sister Peggy Hoffman (Garnet); and brother-in-law Leonard Kazur (Mary).
Bob is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

A proud member of Local 800 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Bob held great respect for his fellow “Brothers and Sisters.” He was an active participant in the Fish and Game Association, where his passion for hunting birds, deer, and moose flourished. He cherished the rides through the bush with his many furry companions over the years, especially his long-time buddy, Tony, who will miss him dearly.

In his later years, Bob found joy in the company of special friends, sharing laughter and conversations over a beer at the White Eagle, The Legion, and Vienna’s. He lived life on his own terms until his last day, always beaming with pride for “his girls” and ensuring everyone knew it.

Though he never claimed the big win, he did triumph with a $10 scratch ticket on his final play—a fitting testament to his spirit.

*Until memory fades and life departs, you will live forever in our hearts.*

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many friends and family who have supported them during this difficult time. Special thanks to Tracey Renaud for her unwavering dedication.
We would like to extend our thanks to the doctors and staff at Blanche River Health for their compassionate care in Bob’s final days.

Donations in Bob's memory can be made to Advocates for Northern Animals (3 Dunfeild Rd, Kirkland Lake) or a charity of your choice.

Cremation has taken place. There will be an iterment in the spring, details to be announced at a later date.

I always smile when I think of Uncle Bob as I remember his hearty laugh and great sense of humor. Scared the heck out me taking us to the dump to see all the bears by the family cabin when we were kids. He had a good chuckle when the girl cousins couldn’t sleep fearing the bears would get us. I know you will all miss him. I remember him fondly as a wonderful brother to my mom and as a happy fun uncle.
My condolences to you all in this time of loss.
