VAN LIEROP, Peter

2009

We regret to announce the passing of Peter A. van Lierop. Sr., after ninety-six (96) years of life, on the 26th of February 2009 at the CHUS Fleurimont Hospital surrounded by family. Beloved husband for sixty-one years of the late Catharina van den Hurk. He leaves to mourn his children Francesca, Peter Jr., William (Late Maria), Martin (Barbara) and grandchildren Catherine (Orisbel), Mariannik, Jean-Marc, Johan (Julia), Raphael (Hilary), Michael (Sheila) and great-grandchildren Kassandra, Logan, Emrik, Esme, and Rem as well as relatives in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and the Netherlands. Predeceased by his son Hans and his brothers Rein, Martien and Marinus. Born in Mierlo, the Netherlands, he started in the farm business at an early age. He went to great lengths to save his family from harm during the harrowing times of WW II. In 1945, the family farm and the surroundings were liberated by the Canadian Army which created a special bond between the liberators and his future adopted country. He subsequently immigrated to Canada with his young family in 1951 to seek new business and farming opportunities, starting a dairy operation in Saint-Ignace-de-Stanbridge, then moving to a larger farm in West-Brome and finally settling in Cookshire on a farm that his son Bill continues to operate. He very proudly stayed in his own home until November 2007 before taking up residence at La Sapinière in East-Angus. The family would like to convey a sincere thank-you to the staff of the CHUS Hospital for their kind care. We are particularly grateful to the staff of La Sapiniere, the Cookshire CLSC and the Aide Domestique du Haut-Saint-Francois for bringing such compassionate support in his later years. The funeral ceremony will be held on February 28, 2009 at 2:30 pm. Family will receive condolences prior to the service from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at the Saint-Camille Church in Cookshire. Donations in Mr. van Lierop’s memory may be made to the CHUS Foundation, 580, rue Bowen Sud, Sherbrooke, Que. J1G 2E8 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
