SWANSON, Peter

1952 - 2024

It is with the greatest sadness that the family of Peter Donald Swanson announces his passing on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
Peter passed away on his own terms surrounded by his family and closest friends from near and far at Blanche River Health. Peter is survived by his daughters Kimberly, Karen, Kelly (Caroline) and his Grandchildren, Brooke and Colton Gabara of British Columbia. Brother Ed (Judy), sister Loriann and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Peter was pre-deceased by his wife Pearl (nee Bodick), his parents, Austin and Norma, brother, Ronald, and stepdaughter Shannon.
Peter’s true passions were farming, horses, fishing, family and friends. Peter worked for many years in the bush, logging or operating heavy equipment where he was highly respected and made many great friends.

Peter was a jack of all trades and a master of most due to an endless thirst for knowledge. This was demonstrated through the many builds of homes and barns with the collective efforts and knowledge of family and the lifelong friends made while growing up in Tarzwell.

He wanted to express his deepest gratitude to the staff at the Kirkland Lake site, where he had some great laughs and good conversations. Thanks to the strengths of family ties in a northern community.

In lieu of flowers, he asks you make a donation to the Timiskaming Hospice Palliative Care in Kirkland lake or a charity of your choice.
As per his wishes, there will be no service and he will be laid to rest in the Round Lake Cemetery this spring “on a warm day.”

He will never be forgotten, and forever loved by all that knew him.

So very sorry to hear this very sad news. I knew Peter most of my life, we went to school together. This is going back a few years. He always had a smile, joke or some story to make people laugh. I visited him at his home on Round Lake, a beautiful spot. My sincere condolences to the entire Swanson Family.

Many memories of growing up with Peter. The whole farm was our playground for hide and seek and baseball with the neighbor kids (Keith’s, Kants), horse riding, building cabins complete with stoves, milking cows, everyone helping with haying, riding horses then feeding them bread sprinkled with brown sugar and coffee, skating on the dam in the winter and many more memories.
Rest easy my birthday twin.

The Swanson Family

So sorry to hear of Peter’s passing. I had the opportunity of working with Austin and Norma’s boys in my teens while dating their cousin in Tarzwell. I quickly found out they were no strangers to hard work. I was playing football in high school and thought I was in pretty good shape until I went to work in the bush with them to load and unload pulp. Didn’t matter if it was -40 or if the loader would not start, the trucks still had to be loaded and unloaded by hand to get paid. Still have the scars on my wrist from the pulp hook while loading frozen balsam into train cars.
My deepest condolences
Paul

Peter's family

I hadn't seen Peter and Pearl in many many years, when I was in college in North Bay I came on a couple occasions and visited them, they treated me like gold. Pearl's mom Aunt Kitty was living with them at that time, and then they sold and moved into Kirkland Lake, I only saw them once there, before I was married I think even I have been married for 20 years this year, the year I was on my 1st mat leave my dad and I were going to come visit (2008) but it was complicated for my dad to travel he was on dialysis and home oxygen. He thought the world of Peter and Pearl and so did I. I have for the last several year wondered how Peter was doing, it was unfortunate we all did not keep in contact. Wishing his family all the love and healing in their time of grief. Amanda Bentley (nee Gaylord)
