PETRIE, Peter

1961 - 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter Alexander Petrie at Blanche River Health - Kirkland Lake on November 16th 2022, at the age of 61.

Born on July 14th 1961, Peter was the beloved husband of Linda (Buckley) and father to twins Nicholas and Matthew. He is survived by his wife Linda Petrie, son Matthew Petrie, sisters Janet Petrie, Deborah Waugh (Harry), Cathy Dyer (Jim) and brothers Ross Petrie and David Petrie (Heather Moffat) and his many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his son Nicholas Petrie, mother Gladys Petrie and father Robert Petrie.

Peter was a dedicated and hard worker with incredible focus, intellect, and leadership. He was relentlessly committed to learning about the world, and questioning those around him on 80s music trivia. His booming voice and cheerful charisma made him impossible to miss when he entered a room, and he brought humor and level-headed insight to every conversation. The community will remember him as an involved volunteer, participating in hockey coaching and fundraising events. He always sought ways to understand the perspectives and struggles of others, and his sense of empathy will be dearly missed. He was told by Shirley Dal Pai he was a gentlemen, always dressed appropriately for every event, with his suit and tie.

A viewing will be held from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday November 17th at the French Family Funeral Home (Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative) in Kirkland Lake, with a service to be held on Friday November 18th at 11:00 am. We kindly ask that everyone attending wear a mask.

In memory of Peter, donations can be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada ( https://cysticfibrosistribute.crowdchange.ca/2196/donate ), and he would want you to carry out an act of kindness to someone around you.

“Your body may be gone, but your spirit, wit, and fortitude will live on in our hearts.”

To my dear brother Peter you will be so missed. Your welcoming personality, amazing enthusiasm and big smile. Growing up in our family of 6 children and all the experiences and travels throughout Canada and the states. Lots of fond memories in western Canada and then Ontario. As you grew up and ventured up to northern Ontario where you met your soul mate Linda and started your family with the twins Nicholas and Matthew. Your love for the north country and your extended family with the Buckleys etc.
Love you so much Linda and Matthew. Thank you for being Peter’s best friend and sister-in-law by his side always. ❤️ Cathy and Jim Dyer

OH Linda my heart breaks for you. I had no idea Peter was so sick let alone this. No words of comfort that i could pass on to you, could ease the pain that you are going through right now. I hope Nichlos is waiting for him with arms wide open. Stay strong my friend and remember the good times, they will help you through this rough period. RIP Peter.

My sincere condolences on the passing of Peter. Reflecting back on all of the years of minor hockey where Peter would work the gate on the defence side - I could always count on him to be in my corner (especially when I coughed up passes in front of our net and felt Sean’s laser eyes on my neck at the bench). We would share a few quick words on what to do different and usually both laugh (who could forget his laugh).
Peter will surely be missed, but like Nick, my time shared with them will never be forgotten.
Thinking of you both during this difficult time.

My heart is a bit emptier now. Peter was always bigger than life, and I will always remember him as friend who I could laugh with.

It is with deep sadness for the loss of a very intelligent man…Peter.
I had the privilege of working with Peter at Delshen. His intellect and humour will truly be missed. The above obituary says it all. He is now with his beloved son Nicholas who I also worked with. I am proud to have called both of you my friends.
RIP. Thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time!

Linda, Matt and our cousins & their families

I know the Petrie’s came east for visits but I only came to know Peter when the family moved back to Ontario. Peter had welcoming demeanor and a way of making you instantly feel like you belonged. With an infectious smile and laugh, and a heat as big as his personality. He instantly made a friend of Bill, and charmed Kielen.
Peter would light up a room when he walked in.

Linda & Matt, I do not know how to express my sorrow for your loss. Please remember the times that make you happy and you will find Peter’s light and the comfort that you need.

Please do not hesitate to ask Bill or I for anything, we are here for you.
Love Donna, Bill & Kielen
