GEORGE, Paula

1966 - 2023

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful Paula. Born in Melbourne, Australia in 1966, Paula passed away in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada on May 6th 2023. She was 56.

Paula met Jobe in Victoria, Vancouver Island.  After working and travelling together in the UK they settled in Ottawa, marrying in June 1992.  They shared passion for music, travel, cats and a love of all things ‘Iceland’.

A great love of music led Paula to volunteer at the Ottawa Blues Fest and City Folk Festival, transporting performers - many of whom were her teenage idols - to and from venues.  It was the highlight of Paula’s summer for 10 years and she was twice awarded Transport Volunteer of the Year.

Paula will be remembered as smart, quick, hilariously funny, fun, kind and curious.  An adored wife, beloved daughter, baby sister, and aunt, a loyal and thoughtful friend, a lover of good food and wine, a passionate Project Manager (who in her own words ‘loved the sound of people working’), and proud Australian-Canadian dual citizen.

Sewing was another great love of Paula’s and she became an avid collector of beautiful fabrics.

Paula is survived by husband Jobe Roberts, sisters Marg, Fran and Leah, much loved nieces & nephews, Sarah, Scott, Ash, Alex, Connor, Dan, Lawson & Myles, many family, friends, and adored cats Mitzi, Buster and Turnip.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to a Pancreatic Cancer research organisation in your city.

Online condolences can be made via www.cfo.coop

Jobe, I am so very sorry to hear about you tragic loss. In this time of sadness bewilderment and unknowing, please know that you have friends far and wide that are there to lean on. Richard and I often talked about you both fondly and remembered the crazy antics we all shared from building Adirondack chairs to firing mini cannons across the Gatineau River. You both seem to have the skill to face life’s challenges with humor, compassion and strength. I know you as a resourceful, resilient and creative human being. These strengths are there to help you find your way through this very difficult time.

Paula’s friends and family

I had the pleasure of volunteering with Paula for her 10 years with Bluesfest. Every year I looked forward to seeing her and spending time with her. As said, she was incredibly funny and fun. That laugh, that accent! We all just loved her. Sincere condolences to all that loved her. A beautiful message from Jobe and Paula’s friend Marilyn is below, and in her message she mentions a couple of antics they got up to, which I can so see Paula doing.
