Knowles, Norma

KNOWLES, Norma

1930 - 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Norma Knowles on October 18, 2022, at the age of 92 at the Wales Home in Richmond Quebec. She will be sadly missed by her brother Mac and sister-in-law Joyce. Cherished Aunt of Terry (George), Chris (Carole), Pam (Todd), and Rick (Janet). Also dearly missed by great nieces and nephews Kyle, Ryan, Joshua, Mackenzie, Jordyn and great nephew, James. Predeceased by her husband, Orin Taylor. After graduating from McGill University, Norma enjoyed a successful career as a Home Economics teacher at Drummondville, Cowansville and Richmond Regional High Schools. Norma was active in the Women’s Institute, a Legion member, and gave generously of her time to supporting the St. Anne’s Anglican Church in Richmond. Her entrepreneurial spirit also led her to open the popular Twin Pines gift shop in rural Richmond. She also spent many years researching in Canada and England our family history and produced a popular book called the “Hall Connection”, copies of which have made their way worldwide. A trained pianist, Norma loved the piano and truly enjoyed playing for many years, especially in later days at the Hymn Sing at the Wales Home. As she travelled for many special occasions to visit family in Ontario, no trip was complete without a family jam session featuring Aunt Norma on the keyboard. A life well lived in the community. A ceremony will take place at the Wales Home, 506, Road 243 North, Cleveland, on Saturday, November 5 at 1 p.m. followed by the burial at St. Anne’s cemetery in Richmond. Donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

The family of Norma Knowles

When I attended Cowansville High School in the mid 60's, Miss Knowles was my Home Economics teacher. She was a very kind and patient teacher. after Graduation, I went on to train as a nurse at Sherbrooke Hospital where I had Miss Knowles as a patient. We were both delighted to see each other. Although I have put my roots down way across Canada,in Kelowna, British Columbia since 1976, to this day when I'm roasting a chicken, baking muffins or biscuits, mending or sewing, and many other household delights, I remember all of the little tricks that she taught us. I'm very thankful for the life long lessons that she passed on to all of us. My deepest sympathy to the friends and family members who loved and will miss her. Thank~you for sharing her with all of her grateful students. I have a large nature garden ~~~I will dedicate one of my many trees to her memory.
