DUFFY (NÉE DUNN), Muriel Eva
1938 - 2022
Muriel was born in Leeds, Quebec to Grace Oliver and Andrew Dunn. She was predeceased by her parents and sibling, Marjory Bell (Jim deceased). She was the loving and long-time wife of Rodney A. J. Duffy, also deceased. Most of her formative years were spent in Ulverton, Quebec; however, the family did live on the farm associated with the Wales Home for a time. While there, she became a Junior Candy Striper, which gave her a lifelong desire to reach out and cheer up people she met.
She was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loyal friend. Her children are Donna Bliss (Stephen), Marina D’Arthenay (Jack deceased), James Duffy. Grandmother to Benjamin Bliss (Andrea), Adam Bliss, Elaine Bliss-Libby (Lucas), Courtney D’Arthenay, Andrew Duffy (Caroline), Allison Duffy and Shawn Duffy. Great grandmother to Cody and Hailey Bliss.
Muriel always had an ‘open door’ policy. She welcomed visitors from around the world, plying them with tea, coffee, lemonade and of course, her homemade doughnuts. Her ready smile and outgoing personality meant she would engage family, friends and strangers in conversation and form arguments with the best of them.
She volunteered at St. Francis Elementary School as the ‘Hot Lunch Lady’. Muriel was a member of the Rebecca’s, the Townshipper Association, the Historical Society and a long-time volunteer at the Wales Home. Muriel was also a lifetime member of the Women’s Institute. Her passions were sewing, knitting and gardening. Muriel leaves behind many extended family and cherished friends.
The family would like to extend its thanks to the nursing staff and doctors of the palliative care unit of the St. Croix Hospital, Drummondville. Special thanks also to doctors M. Longval and C. Lemay.
The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at St. Anne’s Anglican Church, Richmond, Quebec with visitations at 10:00 and service at 11:00. Those wishing to attend are asked to wear bright, flower colours, as Muriel love of flowers and gardening were the pastimes that kept her engaged during the COVID isolations. A private family burial will be held following the service at St. James Cemetery, South Durham.
If you should wish to make a donation, Muriel, expressed her desire to have St. Anne’s Anglican Church, South Durham United Church, St. James Cemetery and St. Croix Hospital be considered.
