It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved son 

Mathieu Martel

He passed away on November 13, 2018, at the age of 33.

He leaves behind his beautiful daughter Ellie, his loving mother Chantal and his ever caring father Denis Lacelle; his grandmother Yvette as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins and his beloved dog Kyra.  We would like to give special thanks to his friends Odeon, Eli, Stéphane, Manon, Rich, Ritchie, Nick, Marie-Pier, Lyon, Mars, Quinton, Nancy and many more for always being there for him; he loved you all dearly.

The celebration of prayers will be held at the COOPÉRATIVE FUNÉRAIRE DE L'OUTAOUAIS, at 95, Cité-des-Jeunes Bvld, in Gatineau (Hull sector), on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 10 am. The family will receive condolences as of 9 am.

For those who wish to do so, donations to the SPCA  or the Mental Health Foundatiion would be appreciated.

Mes condoléances à la famille . Jai eu la chance d'avoir être amie avec Mathieu au élémentaire . Il était toujours drôle en disant des blagues en classe. C'est très difficile de savoir que il est plus avec nous. May you rest in peace Mathieu!

Reste forte Chantal, Mathieu t'aimait beaucoup et tu a toujours été une très bonne mère pour lui. Si jamais quelqu'un veux savoir pourquoi il est parti si tôt, cest parce que il a vie cinq fois la vie que la plupart de nous vivrons. Ton fils et mon frérot était une des plus vrai personne que ce monde aille jamais connu.

Dear Chantal,

I am deeply saddened and shocked to hear about Mathieu’s passing. During the past few days I have been reliving past memories of Mathieu’s friendship. Those memories are combined with sorrow and happiness. So so many memories! Even though we weren’t close these last few years, Mathieu remained a true friend at heart. He was such a big part of my life growing up and he taught me quite a lot. I wouldn’t be who I am today had he not been my closest friend growing up.

In addition to these memories, are also memories of you. The bond between you and Matt was so strong and I admired that growing up. It pains me knowing the difficult and emotional times that lies ahead for you but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

As a result of working and living abroad, it will make attending the funeral impossible and it truly is heart-wrenching to know that I will not be able to offer my support to you and particularly say a proper goodbye to Mathieu.

Chantal, I’m sharing in your sadness as you remember Mathieu, he will truly be missed by so many!

I have only known Matty for a short time, about mid June, in that time we became very close. He was truly an amazing person and full of life. I wish I had a thousand more memories to look back on but I will forever cherish, and hold dear to my heart, the ones I do have.

Chantal et Denis

J'ai eu la chance de connaître Mathieu et de le côtoyer pour une année remplie de rires et de plaisir. J'ai toujours su qu'il avait un grand potentiel, je le lui ai souvent dit. Nos chemin se sont séparés lorsque je suis parti étudier à l'extérieur. J'aurais aimé avoir été là pour lui dans les dernières années. Mathieu aura toujours une place spéciale dans mon coeur.
