With great sadness her family announces the death of Mary Eleanor (Dudy) on Sunday, March 4, 2007, at the Wales Home, Richmond, Québec. Born in Rock Island, Québec on July 10th, 1913, she was the loving daughter of the late Henry Tenney and the late Mary Florence (Crocker) Ball, loving sister of the late Lady Banting (Henrietta) and of Lucy Lee Yardley (the late Donald) of Weybridge, England. She was the widow of the late Brigadier General John S. McCannel and of the late David Ball Mansur. She will be sadly missed by her nieces, Margot Yardley of Bristol, England, Susan Yardley of Nashville, Tennessee and Susan’s son, Ryan Shouse, her step-children, Judith (Judie) Thornton and Michael (Hélène) Mansur , her step-grandchildren David (Peggy) Mansur, Carole (Paul Nicholl), Cynthia (Cindy) (Mark Hawley) and Tracy (John Duffy) as well as by 11 step-great-grandchildren. Eleanor (Dudy) attended Holmes Model School (of Stanstead College), Mount Allison Ladies’ College and the Nursing School of the Royal Victoria Hospital. She served her country as a Canadian Nursing Sister Captain in the South African Military Service. Eleanor was one of 300 Canadian Nursing Sisters loaned to the South African Military Service during World War 11. Post-war, she returned to Canada where, as an active volunteer for many years, she supported St. Johns Ambulance, the Canadian Red Cross, I.O.D.E., the Stanstead Historical Society and Stanstead College. Visitation, including a Canadian Legion Service, will take place at Cass Funeral Home, 545 Dufferin St., Stanstead, QC www.casshomes.ca / 819-876-5213 from 1 to 4PM on Wednesday, March 7th, 2007. The Family will be present at a Memorial Service to be held at Christ Church, Stanstead, followed by interment at Crystal Lake Cemetery, Stanstead, in late May on a date to be announced. To respect the wishes of the deceased please donate to Christ Church, the Crystal Lake Cemetery or the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. The family expresses deep gratitude to Janet McCallum, Karen Banfill, Laura Laprise, Dr. Jacques Martin and other staff members at the Wales Home in Richmond for their kind, loving and respectful care of Mrs. Mansur.
