Cannot find the words to say how sorry we are….
There is a great emptiness in our hearts. Be assured he rests well after a life well lived…

I worked with Lowell for a number of years on patrol at Ottawa Police. He was a great mentor and had a great sense of humour. Easy to talk to and a great man to have on a call.

Lowell Montague
I worked on several platoons with Lowell. He was always wanting to be at the center of whatever was going on. He had a playful sense of humour and enjoyed playing practical jokes as much as being the target of them. I had tremendous respect for him as a police officer and as a human being. Rest in peace.

Lowell's family and friends
I worked with Lowell at Ottawa Police and he left a lasting impression....in addition to, almost, quite literally, saving my life several times. I'll never forget him showing up urgently at least three times when I was in the midst of a physical battle with violent people I was trying to take into custody....Upon his arrival, the matter was, shall we say, resolved quickly! He was my 'guardian angel' out in the west end of Ottawa and he was respected by not only each and every one of the street cops but, also, by the 'bad guys'. He was tough and physically imposing on the streets, but also fair and compassionate. Over time, I had the privilege to get to know more of the gentle, kind, and caring side of the man. He talked often about his family, who he obviously loved very much, and he shared with me information about his love for music (country/western as I recall). I have a lot of great memories of Lowell and I will continue to cherish those.

I worked with Lowell at the Ottawa Police and dropped him off at his home a number of times ..He was a kind, funny, considerate man and a great police officer. He told me he was in a band and I see he was a fan of Valley Heritage Radio like many of us are. I was just thinking about him last week and had a smile thinking of his great laugh, sense of humour and solid character ..My deepest condolences ..

I worked with Lowell many years. He was a very good police officer whom all could rely on. He was passionate, kind and well respected. He will be remembered and missed. Rip Lowell. You’ve earned it.

Please accept my condolences on Lowell's passing he will always be with you in spirit and mind during this difficult time. Lowell was a mentor to many young police officers with Ottawa Police and always took the time to share his knowledge and experience to make it easier for young officers to navigate their early years on the job. I have so many found memories and laughs of him when he was partnered with Duncan Angus from my early years on the job.
May he be entertaining many with his guitar and humour in Gods arms.

Deepest Sympathy to The Family on this sad news...
My parents (Doreen & Francis) had a few cassettes of Lowells songs and listened to them at their cottage. Marg & him would stop in heading up the gatineau and say why are you listening to that music must be something better to listen to.. he was always a joker!!
He will be missed... cherish the memories as he will always be with you. R.I.P.

Our deepest condolences to all Lowell’s family and dear friends. He was a true gentleman and a life loving man. We had the pleasure of sitting on the executive of the Ottawa and District Old Time Fiddlers, and could not have had a better leader in our midst. Dear Margaret, he had so much love for you, I know you will always feel his presence from afar even though he cannot be by your side. Melanie, Cheryl and Ian, he was so proud of all of you and your families, there was always a gleam in his eyes when he spoke of any of you. His pride and joy. Lowell will be missed by so so many people, not just for his music and song but also his joie de vivre. Rest in peace our dear friend, heaven will be so much more musical when you reach your destination and your past musicians and round callers are waiting at the gates. Love to all of you!

I worked with Lowell in the 70's with OPS out of Churchill Ave, gosh, a while ago. I was a very young officer and Lowell was always good to me. I wish you my heart felt sympathy in the coming years with fond memories of the past years.

It is with heavy heart and an abundance of memories I reflect upon my Godfather Lowell; his humour, wisdom, goofiness (outside the uniform). There are too many interactions I can remember that showed his great depth of human kindness and fairness. I loved the entire Montague family during my teen years (and still do), and spent as much time as possible with them. (I think I adopted them as my second family). A unique soul has passed. Love and condolences to all.

My sincere condolences to Margaret and family. I met Lowell and Margarer through Old Tyme Fiddlers about 15 years ago. They provided a wonderful example of service and respect for people. While I did not know them well, I felt I had to have a joke ready whenever I saw Lowell or called their home. He always had time for a good laugh. He will be missed by many. Know that so many people are thinking of you during this difficult time.
Kindly,

I'm so sorry to hear of Lowell's passing.
He was my coach officer when I joined the job 37 years ago.
I feel very fortunate to have had him as my mentor. I learned a lot from him,not least was how to keep safe. Years later,it was me sharing that knowledge with my recruits.
As we patrolled our area, Lowell would often sing Country songs! This also made a lasting impression on me as I am learning the banjo in my retirement!
Thanks for everything Lowell.
My sincere condolences,

I just read the sad news of Lowell's passing. In 1964 when I joined the Ottawa Police I worked with Lowell for a number of years on the same platoon, mostly walking a beat. He was a good police officer and a pleasure to work with. My deepest condolences to his family.
