1949 - 2024

Matachewan First Nation Elder Lorena Rose MacKay passed away on October 12, 2024 at the Kirkland Lake Hospital.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Matachewan First Nation Community Centre on Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 1 to 4 pm.

Lorena was born in Matachewan to George and Leta Batisse on January 12, 1949.

She is survived by her siblings Norman (Debbie), Marlene, Dennis, Debra (Bill), Connie (Mike), Christine and Terry (Dan), daughter Sandra (Jim), son Robert (Cathy), granddaughters Sarah & Jessica, step-grandson Colin, great grandchildren Jacoby and Amelia, and many nephews and nieces and great nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by George & Leta Batise and siblings Kenny, Gary, George, Wayne and Diane.

Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Association (https://cancer.ca, or by mail at 55 St. Clair Avenue West, Suite 300, Toronto, Ontario M4V 2Y7) .

The family wishes to extend gratitude to the Matachewan First Nation Community.

I am so so sorry about Lorena. I will miss her so much. She was a beautiful person inside and outside. I will miss her visit and long talks on the phone. She was my best friend.
