MONETTE, Lionel

1930 - 2023

LIONEL MONETTE MARCH 14, 1930 - OCTOBER 27, 2023

The Monette family regretfully announces the passing of Mr. Lionel Monette. He passed away peacefully at his residence in L'Ange-Gardien surrounded by family members. He is predeceased by his wife Stella, with whom he was in a loving relationship for 58 years. He is survived by his children Denis (Laurie MacLean), Jean-François and Sylvie; his five grandchildren: Andrea, Christopher, Alexander, Sonya and Chantal and his six great-grandchildren: Huxley, Keats, Romeo, Charlie, Lexie and Liam.

The son of Phillias Monette and Gladys Hewston, he was born in Hull (Quebec) and was the eighth child in a family of nine. He is predeceased by all of his brothers and sisters, Inez, Edmond, Alice, Laura, Merlin, Aline, Patricia and Rhea.

Lionel worked for 35 years for Christie Brown & Company, he started his career with them in Ottawa and finished in Montreal as National Director of Shipping in 1987.

Lionel will be remembered as a devoted Husband and Father. A faithful friend always ready to help others. He worked very hard and made many sacrifices to give as much as possible to his family. He loved playing cards, family gatherings, hockey, hunting and pontoon boat rides on the Lièvre River near his home towards the end of his life.

Special thanks to Jean-François, who was an extraordinary primary caregiver for his dad, and to all of the medical personnel and support staff (Buckingham CLSC) for their compassion and excellent care and support that allowed Lionel to remain at home until the end.

You may express your sympathies by making a donation to the Fondation Santé de Papineau, 155 MacLaren East Street, Gatineau (Quebec) J8L 0C2.

A private family celebration will take place at the cemetery.
