TEAGUE-BREUKELMAN, Laura Mary

1963 - 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. Laura Mary Teague-Breukelman, a woman whose life was a testament to the profound impact one can have on others. Surrounded by her loved ones, she transitioned from this world to the next on November 15, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, wisdom, and a lifetime of dedication to the field of healthcare.

Born on February 15th, 1963 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Laura grew up with an innate desire to help others. This calling led her to pursue a career in the nursing field, where she dedicated herself to the well-being of countless individuals. Her tireless efforts as a Nurse Practitioner saved numerous lives, bringing hope and comfort to those who were fortunate enough to cross her path.

Beyond her remarkable career, Laura was a teacher in every sense of the word. Her knowledge and experience were not kept to herself, as she generously shared her wisdom with aspiring nursing professionals and mentored innumerable students. Her guidance and nurturing spirit inspired and shaped the future of healthcare for generations to come.

Laura's impact extended far beyond the hospital walls. She was a beloved friend, a confidante, and a pillar of strength to many. Her warm smile and kind heart made her a magnet for friendships, and her unwavering support was a source of solace for those who sought her counsel.

Laura lived her life in the service of others with grace and humility, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her legacy will forever be imprinted on the hearts of those she touched, reminding us
of the power of love, compassion, and selflessness.

She is survived by her husband, David, her father, Norman, sisters Alison and Susan, brother Michael, stepchildren Christian and Megan, grandchildren Atrisha Joan and Autumn Mary Anne, daughter-in-law
Atrisha, son-in-law Kenneth, nieces and nephews Andrea, Olivia, Eric and Ben, who will continue to cherish her memory and carry forward the values she held dear.

A celebration of Laura's life will be held on November 27, 2023 at Spencer’s at the Waterfront between 1:00PM – 4:00PM [1340 Lakeshore Rd., Burlington, ON]. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Laura Mary Teague Scholarship Foundation (https://give.supportsinai.ca/fundraisers/DavidBreukelman/in-memory-laura-mary-teague) in her honor, as it reflects her dedication to helping others.

In her passing, Laura has left an indelible mark on our lives, and her memory will forever serve as a beacon of light and inspiration. Though she may no longer be with us in person, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Rest in peace, dear Laura, knowing that your love and legacy will endure for generations to come. Online condolences can be left at www.dbburlington.ca

How sad and shocking to learn of Laura's death! Such an accomplished woman and kind to others. We will always remember her singing at our cousin Carol's wedding in Toronto many years ago. She had the voice of an angel. Please know we are thinking of you all and send sincere sympathy.

What a beautiful tribute to Laura! She was so selfless and always worried about everyone else, even when she was so sick from all of this. She encouraged me to go out and shop and enjoy myself when Paul and I went to see her 2 weeks ago. As soon as she heard of a medical problem I or anyone in our family had she was on it and getting us directed to the best care. Laura, it seems so hard to understand sometimes why such things happen to such amazing people, our faith tells us to trust in God’s plan. We just wish you could have stayed with us longer. You will be forever missed and loved. With heaps of love, Paul, Marjorie, Christopher and Abbey xo

I remember when I first met Laura in 1991 at St Michaels on the plastic surgery floor where I worked as Rn on the floor looking after the many unfortunate patients who had various skin issues . Laura was the wound care nurse and she would make rounds with Dr Mahoney . She was brilliant . She always had a warm smile and daily she went above and beyond for all of the patients that she cared for. Laura left us too soon. May she rest in peace

I am very saddened by the loss of dear Laura. I worked with her and Karen for several years on an educational offering that was sought after by so many people. It was a pleasure to watch Laura in action; she was so wise, generous, funny and innovative. Karen and Laura's friendship and Laura and David's marriage was so lovely to witness, especially during our week long stints. We made great memories together. Rest in peace and God bless Laura.

Laura’s Family and Friends

Laura and her family were our neighbours in Kirkland Lake when we lived there in the late 70s and early 80s. She was a great babysitter for our daughters Lee-Anne and Jaime. They loved her as we all did. She was so intelligent, dependable and trustworthy in her youth that it was easy to predict she would be such a successful and caring human being. It brings tears to know of her passing and to think of all those who cared for her so much. We are very proud and happy to have known her. Our deepest sympathy to all of Laura’s family and friends.

With Love,
Patricia, Jim, Lee-Anne and Jaime Armstrong

I met Laura in the nineties at St. Michael's Hospital where she was of course Miss Wound Care. She made what was something of a forgotten area of medicine both exciting and transformative. All of this before my own skin wound that brought me into regular contact with her for several weeks until it healed. As described by others she was very funny but lost none of her professional demeanor in these encounters. My sympathy to you all.
She was a delight to know and a wonderful nurse.
