RIVARD, Jean
1939 - 2024
“When two hearts meet after being apart for a time, the world fades away as they meet and share the purest of loves. They are invincible at that moment, and that is the magic of their love.”
It is with heavy hearts, the family announces the peaceful passing of our dear mom, nana and great-nana, Jean Lorrainne Rivard, on May 6, 2024, at the age of 84. She joins her forever love, Ollie, in heaven where they can once again be one forever.
Mom leaves a great legacy of love in her children, Cathy and husband Charles McLaughlin, Judy and husband Mike Robichaud, and Tim and wife Tracey Crumley. She is also survived by grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, Carla Mclaughlin and son Keiran Wolkins, Clayton McLaughlin, wife Valerie and son Charlie McLaughlin, Meagan McLaughlin and partner, Derek Waldron, Jesse Robichaud and Jackie Robichaud (Matt Marion), Sophie Rivard and Ella Rivard.
Mom is also survived by her only living sibling, sister Thelma Taylor, and many nieces and nephews.
Mom had a full life. Born and raised in Cabbagetown, mom and dad met in Toronto. Ironically, they found that both of their families had roots in Northern Ontario and in 1969, they came to Kirkland Lake to raise their family of three. Before dad passed, the two were inseparable. Their Catholic faith led them to be active church members, mom being a member of the CWL and dad becoming a member of the Knights of Columbus. They both loved a battle, had a passion for helping the working people, and dipped their toes into provincial politics. Their favorite pastime was camping, and the family spent many summers at Esker Park where dad would compete with having the biggest wood pile. Becoming Nana and Papa stirred their creative woodworking skills and as a team, made children's toys and furniture, many creations which remain coveted to this day. It was a difficult path for mom when dad suddenly passed, but mom found her way, becoming Nana B Nana to her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As COPD claimed mom's lung capacity and macular degeneration took her sight, mom recognized that it was time to move to assisted care living. Teck Pioneer Residence would become mom's last stop as the staff and residents embraced her like family. Mom once again became queen of the table with her 3 sidekicks, Frank, Bob and Jim. She maintained peace, manners and rule at the table with a side of Jackson humor and wit to keep the gang not only in line but smiling.
The Family would like to thank the staff at Teck Pioneer Residence for their unconditional care. Donations can be mailed directly to the Teck Pioneer Residence, Activity Fund (145 A Government Road West, Kirkland Lake, ON P2N 3P4) in memory of Jean.

She was so friendly, caring and helpful. I really enjoyed spending time with her and the other ladies until I moved to Ottawa in 2018. May Jean rest in peace with her loving husband Ollie.
