Taylor, Jean Charlotte Leighton
1915-2020
Sunday, March 15, 2020, Jean Charlotte Leighton Taylor passed peacefully. She was 105. Born January 24, 1915 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, beloved daughter of Irene and Jim Leighton, she grew up in Winnipeg with her loving brothers Bob, Lorne and Don. After high school, she studied History under Dr. ARM Lower at the University of Winnipeg, where she was the first woman to join the History Club. She went on to teach for over 25 years, Math, English, Geography, and History, her favorite subject. She, without a doubt, made an amazing impression on countless young adults. Jean moved to Ottawa, then Montreal where she met and married Thomas Shiel Taylor. She had two cherished children, Barbara and David, eventually raising them as a single Mom. Barbara pre-deceased Jean; Jean is survived by David and five adoring grandchildren: Christopher, Emily and Gregory Taylor; Elizabeth and William Grant. She took up cross country skiing after she retired, loved to travel, especially Europe and the USA She also enjoyed art and any museum, even up to the age of 100! Jean also loved gardens and beautiful flowers which she planted and tended to every year on her balcony, overlooking the Ottawa River. Jean loved to spend time with many friends and loving family. She was always up for a fun time or an adventure. She will be missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. overlooking the Ottawa River.
