Barnes, Janet

BARNES, Janet

1940 - 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Janet Barnes, at Blanche River Health on November 23, 2024. Born in 1940, Janet was a devoted and loving daughter to Mike and Rose Kazur, growing up in an era when Kirkland Lake was known as the Hub of the North. It was here that she met Bob, a charming "bad boy" from the Pembroke-Eganville area, and together they chose to build a life and raise their family in Kirkland Lake. This September, they celebrated an incredible 65 years of marriage. Their home was a sanctuary for all in need—family, friends, and even furry strays were always welcomed with open arms. There was always a place at their table, and those who joined us for Christmas or any gathering knew that there was enough food to feed a small army.

Janet will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Cherryl (Eric) and Kathryn (Donny), as well as her cherished granddaughter, Aliana, who brought her immeasurable joy and love.

She will also be fondly remembered by her brothers-in-law, Gerald (Lorraine), Johnny (Betty Anne), Douglas (Kathy), Ron, and her sister-in-law Diane, along with her many nieces and nephews.

Janet was predeceased by and now reunited with her husband Robert Barnes, her parents, Michael and Rose Kazur, her son Michael Barnes, and her brother Leonard Kazur (Mary). She is also reunited with her brothers-in-law, James Adams (Joan) and Brian, as well as her sister-in-law Margret Hoffman (Garnet).

In her retirement, Janet transformed her passion for jewelry into a thriving business, giving birth to The Jewel Box. Here, her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly, exemplified by her generosity and support for the community that makes Kirkland Lake a wonderful place to live. Her customers became friends, and her staff became family. One thing was certain: Janet loved people, and in return, people loved her.

Grammy’s unwavering love and commitment to her family knew no bounds; there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them, and they would do the same for her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity that will resonate for generations.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many friends and family who have supported them during this difficult time. A special thank you goes to Tracey Renaud for her love and dedication.

We are also deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Blanche River Health for their compassionate care in Janet’s final days, and for making her 84th birthday a special occasion, even in the hospital.

Mom, we will love you forever and always. Until memory fades and life departs, you will live on in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Janet’s memory can be made to CJKL Christmas Wish(CJKL Christmas Wish P.O. Box 430 Kirkland Lake, Ontario P2N 3J4 or via their website https://www.cjklfm.com/christmas-wish)or a charity of your choice.

In accordance with Janet’s wishes, cremation will take place, and a graveside service will be held in the spring. Details will be announced at a later date.

Kathy, I met your Mom when I first moved to the area. One of the most down to earth Ladies I met. I would just pop into her Jewelry Store just to catch up on our chats. Beautiful, kind on the inside out. Hopefully I will make it there this spring. I will keep her warm smile with me forever.
