LABONTÉ, Jane

1948 - 2023

In loving memory of Mrs. Margaret “Jane” Labonté (née Pringle) who passed away peacefully at her home in the early hours of Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the age of 74, after a short but brave battle with cancer.

Jane is survived by her children Stephanie (Marc Bellehumeur), Philip (Tiffany White), Guillaume “Goo” (Marcy Davis) and Louise (Remi Loranger). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Nathaniel, Martin, Mia, Ray, Lily, Ava and Lucy. Also, left to mourn are many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and her numerous friends from her social circle.

Jane is now reunited with her husband, Raymond Labonté; her parents William “Bill” Pringle and Elaine (née McGinley); her sister Judy Eno and brother William “Billy” Pringle. Furthermore, she will be joining up with many cousins, brothers and sisters-in-laws and friends.

Jane was kind-hearted, a generous soul, had unwavering love and was very hospitable. She loved to travel, enjoyed spending time at the cottage, adored knitting and watching her favorite TV shows. Mom was very passionate about ironing, and it was not a chore but a pastime. She was known as the Iron Maiden at home. Furthermore, Jane loved teaching children, and shared many funny stories about teaching. She was excellent at reading poetry to the kids and many of her old students remember the poem “The Cremation of Sam McGee” because of her articulate and lively presentation. She made many lifelong friends during her years in education. They were very dear to her, and she loved to go to her monthly luncheons.

The entire Labonté family will be forever grateful to nurse practitioner, Natalie Desjardins, who was very professional, efficient, and dedicated to mom’s care. We would also like to thank everyone that helped care for mom when she needed assistance during her illness. To those that provided food, an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on, we certainly will not forget your generosity.

The family of the late Mrs. Jane Labonté will receive friends and family at Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative -  Perrin Chapel (128 Whitewood Ave., New Liskeard, ON) on Friday, February 17th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish on Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 a.m. Father Wayne Mills will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Temiskaming Hospital Foundation Care Close to Home would be appreciated.

We were so sorry to hear of Jane’s passing. While Mike enjoyed his squash games with Ray, I enjoyed many chats at school with Jane! We always shared a laugh and teased her endlessly about her passion for ironing. The children she taught loved her.
Please accept our deepest condolences.

Jane's Family

I have so many fond memories of visiting Haileybury with my dad, Doug Moore, and seeing Jane & Judy at the house on Elliot. There was usually a lot of laughter involved in those memories. I haven't seen Jane for several years and when we last spoke we were going to try to get together one summer. I'm sorry to have missed the opportunity.
My thoughts are with you at this time.

For the greater part of my childhood, Matante Jane was a second mother to me. The lasting memories from my early years include the countless days playing with Goo at the house, the cottage and the mill and Matante Jane watching over us. She was always there to feed us, care for us, share her knowledge and most importantly, ensure that we didn’t get in trouble! Her kind heart, wisdom, and sense of humour opened her home to many of us and I was privileged to have been welcomed with so much love. In fact, I don’t remember ever knocking at the door… I simply walked in!

I will cherish these fond memories, your grand smile and contagious laughter!

Our sincere condolences to the family

Dear Louise, Goo, Philip and Stephanie

I am so deeply sorry your Mom has passed on. Jane was a wonderful part of my life for a number of years. Always had her special smile and sense of humour which made me smile. Honest and not afraid to speak her mind. I respected her a lot for that. Your Mom and Dad raised you to become the good people you are today. I am in Florida and celebrate you Mom’s life with tears, but also smiles looking at the stars and knowing your mom is now one of them . Mike will be there teasing her again .Hugging you all.

I also remember her supply teaching at ECCS I would spend some time chatting with her. She will be missed! Take care of one of other.

Good, Marcy, Ray, and Lucy

So sorry to hear of sad news about your mom. It is hard to have a mom, grandmother pass away. She sounds like a lovely lady. Enjoy all the great memories I am sure you have of her and speak of her as you can. We talk often with our little one about her mom, Mimi, and Gran who have all passed. Tears and laughter can all go together when you think of those who have left us.
Condolences to your family. Wish I could attend services.

From the Davis family in Windsor.

Children of Jane Pringle Labonte

Sincerest condolences on the loss of your mom, your family matriarch. Jane was a beautiful talented individual who warmly welcomed new members of the family, their many extended families and friends. Jane impressed with her common sense teacher skills, and her love of social gatherings for beach time, games, cards, and she often regaled visitors with travel tales and adventures of her youth. She shall sorely be missed. It was an honour to make her acquaintance and to be welcomed into her family circle. Love and prayers and a raised glass in her honour
