TURNER, James

1937 - 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Edward Turner, fondly known as Jim, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Kirkland Lake District Hospital. He was 87 years old.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Maria (Mary) Modesto Turner, who brought immense joy and companionship into his life. He was cherished deeply by his three children—Jamie Turner, Michael Turner and Douglas Turner. Jim was a loving grandfather to seven grandchildren: Meghan Gignac, Amanda Turner, Jay Turner, Shane Turner, Faith Turner, Serena Turner and Skye Turner. He was also a devoted great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren: Alison Gignac, Giordanna Gignac and Jaxon Turner, all of whom felt the boundless warmth of his love.

Jim began his career at Kerr Addison Mines at the young age of 18, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement at 56. His years at the mine were more than just a job—they were filled with camaraderie, hard work, and the building of lifelong friendships he deeply cherished. Jim was also a dedicated member of the McGarry Fire  Department, serving his community with pride and commitment for many years, embodying the spirit of service and resilience.

Jim's life was transformed when he met his wonderful wife Mary in Rouyn-Noranda, QC. They shared a remarkable marriage of 65 years, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a life filled with cherished memories and a legacy that will be carried forward by those who knew and loved him.

Jim had a true passion for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, finding joy and adventure in casting a line or embarking on hunting trips with Mary, who was always right by his side, carrying out every moose. His love for these pursuits was not just about the catch or game, but for the connection to nature, the stories shared, and the memories made along the way.

Jim also loved spending time at the family cottage, a place that became the heart of many joyful gatherings. It was there that he created years of lasting memories with his children and grandchildren, always ensuring that everyone was having an amazing time. Whether it was enjoying evenings by the bonfire, lively dart nights, or cookouts filled with laughter and good food and drink, Jim made every moment at the cottage unforgettable. Jim will always be remembered for his kindness, adventurous spirit, and love for family.

He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Jim and I had a lot of great conversations at the Kerr Mine. With his expertise we managed to take the Kerr Mine out of Bankruptcy and put a lot of people back to work
