Grace Hellen Macfarlane, beloved wife of Andrew Munro Swan, passed away peacefully at the Magog Hospital on Wednesday October 22, 2008 at the age of 90. She is survived by two of her children Marjorie Thomson (Ross) of Kemble, Ontario and Robert Swan (Zelia) of Toronto, Ontario. She was predeceased by her second son the late Gordon Swan (Eva) of Ottawa, Ontario. Cherished grandmother of eight grandchildren; Matthew (Emily), Andy, Rachel; Josh (Trish), Jordy, Christie; Katy (Rafal), Michael. She is survived by her sister Andrina Carlton and her brother Blakely Macfarlane (Betty). She was predeceased by her older brother Wallace Macfarlane.Grace was born in Hamilton, Ontario on September 12, 1918, the elder daughter of Dr. Percy Macfarlane and Andrina Paterson. She was educated in schools in Hamilton and graduated from McMaster University with a degree in Social Science. She then went to the University of Toronto where she qualified as an Occupational Therapist. Grace and Andy where married in 1943 coincidentally with his enlistment in the RCNVR. Following WWII, Grace lived in Toronto, Ontario, then for six years in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and finally, in Montreal, Sherbrooke and North Hatley, Quebec. Grace was an active amateur artist and throughout her life engaged in sports. Her first love was tennis but she also enjoyed skiing, curling, swimming, square dancing and golf. She enjoyed rambles in the woods, watching birds and animals, and was always a lover of dogs. She had many tales to tell of the sights and sounds experienced during her many trips to faraway places. She will be sorely missed. Visitation at the PLYMOUTH -TRINITY CHURCH, 380 Dufferin Street, Sherbrooke from 1 to 2 PM followed by the funeral service at 2 PM on October 30, 2008. Interment in the Reedsville Cemetery North Hatley on October 31 ,2008 at 10;30 AM . Heather MacDougall officiating.
