Gloria June Tosky
1930-2024
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our wonderful Mom, Grandma and Gigi. Gloria June Tosky (née Sykes) passed in Ottawa on March 2, 2024, at the age of 93, surrounded by the deep love of her family. She was born on August 18, 1930 in Hamilton, Ontario to parents Margaret Burns and Carl Sykes. Gloria was predeceased by her husband, William Tosky in 2002. She will be ever-present in the hearts of her family: Karen (Wolfgang) Kerekes, Margaret (pre-deceased Octave) Bélanger, Glory (Joe) Avella and Eileen Tosky (Jody) McKinnon. She was a loving “Grandma” to Jamie (Shelley), Claire (Robin), Lianne, Joshua (Robyn), Matthew, Justin (Anna), and Luke, and a wonderful “Gigi” to Alice and Charlotte.
Mom was famous for her delicious chocolate chip cookies, her unwavering love for her family (including her fur-family Molly and Sky), and her passion for using technology to learn something new every day. Married for 51 years to William, a proud member of the RCAF, Mom was adept at making a home in new places. Her favourite part of moving was making new friends, both young and old, wherever she was. This continued over the past twenty years, during the many moves and travels with her family. Mom was naturally creative, sewing clothes and Barbie outfits, creating quilts, knitting, and crocheting sweaters and scarves. In the latter part of her life, she developed a love for painting, and blessed her family and friends with beautifully painted cards, natural landscapes, and scenes in nature.
We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Andrew Douglas for his exceptional care and kindness and to the doctors at the Community Palliative Medicine Associates. We would also like to thank the wonderful PSWs and staff at the Prince of Wales Manor and Bayshore Home Health for their compassion and their care for Mom. She loved and appreciated getting to know you all.
We will celebrate her life as a family on a warm, sunny day this summer.
