Giorgio Zanetti (September 29, 1945 - January 12, 2024 )
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Giorgio Zanetti, in his 79th year.
Giorgio was the beloved husband of Lidia and cherished father of Sylvia. Devoted Nonno to Sophia, Ryan, and Sebastian. Loving son of the late Paolo and Carmela. Predeceased by his brothers Pietro (Evelyn), Filippo, Luigi, Carlo, and Agostino, sisters-in-law Jeannine, Maria, Dina, and his sister Maddalena. Leaving to grieve Lino (Rosamaria). A favourite uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Giorgio grew up in northern Italy, and emigrated to Canada in 1966. He was an avid lover of nature, science, and the arts, as well as a pilot, hiker, bicyclist, writer, poet, and photographer. He was a modern-day Renaissance Man. The Canadian Rockies of Alberta held a special place in his heart (as evidenced by the name bestowed upon his loyal four-legged companion, Jasper), and he was lucky enough to experience many wonderful hikes and adventures there with his family, especially with Lidia.
Giorgio took great pleasure in introducing Sylvia to the two passions of her life, horseback riding and flying.
Giorgio had a wonderful sense of humour and had the most unmistakable laugh, laughing especially heartily at his outrageous puns.
Great appreciation to staff at the General Hospital, with special thanks to Dr. Karsanji, and Emma, Rylee, and Kristina from the Hematology Oncology team.
In accordance with Giorgio's wishes, there will be no funeral service.
If desired, donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
