Gerard Doherty, 87, of Stanstead, passed away at the CSSSMemphremagog, on March 9th 2012. Gerry was born in Bury, Québec, on February 25, 1925. He was the only son of James Doherty and Anna Turcotte. He came to live in Stanstead in his teen years and has resided there ever since. He started working at Charlie Crawford’s Garage and then Fournier’s Garage, until he fulfilled his dream of owning his own business on Dufferin Street. Gerry was by far the best mechanic in the Eastern Townships and customers came from miles away to have their car service by Gerry. He always looked forward to his two weeks vacation when he could take his family on camping trips. His favorite place to camp was Old Orchard Beach, ME. His family was always his main priority. Beloved husband of Gloria Sanschagrin and loving father of Gloriann Stevens of Newport VT, Larry (Ghislaine) from Stanstead, Guy of Newport VT and Jerry from Stanstead. Gerry will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Donna (Joseph) of Elmira NY, Erika (Brian) of Atkinson NH, Nicholas (Sasha) from Stanstead, Casey of Stanstead and Travis from Newport VT; by his great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Joey of Elmira NY; by his sisters, Beatrice (late Pat Nadeau), Geraldine (late Gordon Harrison) and Rita (late Georges Bellavance) and his sisters-in-law Catherine (late Hurbert Goodwin) and Joyce (Luc Martel), along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was the brother of the lateThérèse and brother-in-law of the late Wilfrid and the late Richard Sanschagrin. Funeral service and interment at Crystal Lake Cemetery will be held at a later date. As a tribute to his memory, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 3330 King West Street, Bureau 130, Sherbrooke QC J1L 1C9, would be appreciated by the family.
