MACDOUGALL, George

George MacDougall passed away peacefully at home in Collingwood Ontario on January 11, 2023 in his 101st year.
Born and raised in Lennoxville, he attended Bishops University then moved to McGill where he studied dentistry.  He was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces in the Dental Corps where he earned the rank of full Colonel. 
George retired back to Lennoxville to care for his parents enabling them to stay in their home.
George was actively involved in the Lennoxville community.  He was a longstanding member of the snowshoe club, curling club, an elder in his church and a supporter of so many local charities. He loved to serenade anyone with his incredible voice.

George is predeceased by his older brother Daniel and younger sister Margaret (Taulbee) and is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well a few great great nieces and nephews.
A private family service for Geordie will take place on Saturday January 21 at 1 p.m. at The Cass funeral home. There will be an option to view the service via The Cass funeral home website.  Please share stories and remembrances on the Cass website.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be welcomed to the CNIB or The Mission Old Brewery in Montreal.

We will miss George.
He was kind, generous, knowledgable and had a great sense of humour.
He was a pillar at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and enjoyed supporting all events there. And, of course, everyone enjoyed his singing in the choir.
We will always keep him in our memories of St. Andrew's.

Dear Dan and Barb,
Our sympathy to you and all the MacDougall family on the passing of Geordie. We were in St Andrews choir with him and will never forget his strong voice blending with others in hymns and anthems. His stories and sense of humour are also memorable. He was always calm, friendly and kind. He was a great encourager and one of the mainstays in the congregation.
You are in our prayers and we plan to watch the service by livestream.

George's family

We moved to Church St. in July 1992. About a week later, our first meeting with George did not go so well. He was up on an old rickety ladder on the corner of his house ( very precarious position) and he was cleaning out his eavestroughs. Alan went over to see if he could help in any way (or at least hold the ladder?) and George told him that if and when he needed help he would ask! George quickly came to accept us once he found out that we purchased the house in order to take care of Margaret's mother. Also, even though we didn't go to St. Andrew's, we did go down the street to church every Sunday!
Over time, we had a "check" system! We would look every morning to make sure his bedroom blind was up. That meant " all was well"! To this day we find ourselves still looking over.
Many years ago, George started coming over to our place every Friday night at exactly 7:00pm for a wee shot of Drambuie! He would leave promptly at 7:30 to go and check on Miss Murray. Heaven help us if we had soccer, hockey or lacrosse on Friday night! (Eventually Miss Murray asked him not to visit her at night time as she wanted to go to bed earlier. That meant George had a longer time at the Young's!)
George loved his family so much. Every week we would hear stories about his parents, Dan, Margaret and of course his beloved nieces & nephews and their offspring.

Our Deepest Sympathies to the MacDougall Family

Monique and I came to know George as he was often visiting my Aunt Ferne Murray. He was a gentle and caring individual who had pleasure in telling people stories of his past. He also liked to "tease" Ferne who quickly and lovingly returned the favour. He will be greatly missed.
