SEARS, (George) Douglas
February 3, 1935 – July 2, 2021
The family of Doug Sears is deeply saddened to announce his death on July 2, 2021 in Ottawa at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital. Born to Doug and Opal Sears in Campbellton, New Brunswick he grew up in Baie Comeau, Quebec and obtained his BBA at the University of New Brunswick in 1958. He later moved to Ottawa in 1958 to work for the federal government. In September 1959 he married Mary Alma Morton from Stanley, New Brunswick. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary, their two children, Laurie Tennian (Tom), Tim Sears (Liza), three much loved grandchildren Neil and Andrew Tennian and Sofia Sears, and by his dear sister, Katherine Tompkins (Stephen).
He was active in the local community and in 1991 he ran for City Councillor. He was also active in the UNB Association of Ottawa, past President of the Ottawa Valley Curling Association and he was member emeritus of the Governor General’s Curling Club.
Doug will be missed by many curlers with whom he shared his vast curling knowledge. He was renowned for his quick wit and boundless sense of humour.
A private family burial ceremony will take place at a later date. Thanks are extended to the professionals at Carefor and the palliative care staff at Élisabeth Bruyèrefor their compassionate care.
