DEWAR (NEE MASTINE), Frances May

1930 - 2022

Frances May (nee Mastine) Dewar. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom on November 12th, 2022. She was born April 6th, 1930, to the late Henry Mastine and Melvina Wright. Predeceased by her husband Roland Dewar (1999) and son Brent (2000), she leaves to mourn her son Craig, daughter Heather and daughter in-law Jan. She was proud Grandma to Daniel (Janet), Philippe and Oliver Saner (Kloe) and Great Grandma to Fae. Aunt Fran to many nieces and nephews on the Dewar side and Franma to a few special people.

Mom grew up in St. Felix de Kingsey. She attended 1st Consolidated school in Kingsey, St. Francis High School and MacDonald College. With her teachers certificate she taught in Sherbrooke, Drummondville, and Richmond. Fran was an active member of Presbyterian Church Women, a Cub pack leader, served on the board of Townshippers Association and was a lifelong member of the Women’s Institute. An active volunteer, Mom was the first female president of the Wales Home Executive from 1996 to 2006 and served on the board until 2015. A great friend, teacher, volunteer and the best mother you could ask for. She will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Cremation has taken place and a service is planned in Ottawa, Saturday November 26th, 2022 at 2 PM at 337 Breadner Blvd. Burial will include a graveside service in the spring or early summer. A celebration of life is being planned for the same timeframe when we hope friends and family can gather and exchange memories of a life well lived.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the Wales Home and dedicated staff for taking such great care of Mom since 2019.

If you wish, donations can be made in her memory to The Wales Home Foundation https://waleshome.ca/how-to-donate, ALS Canada https://als.ca/ways-to-give/give-a-gift-in-memory/, Camp d’action biblique P.O. Box 3154 Cleveland, QC J0B 2H0, or a charity of your choice.

To describe your mother we will say that she was a kind, generous and good Christian woman. When we first arrived in Richmond, she and Rollie were very kind and welcoming to us. We will never forget that.
We hope that God will comfort you in your time of pain.

Craig and Heather Dewar

I am so so sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. My parents (Horace and Bernadette Arsenault) lived next to Henry and Malvina Mastine on a small farm in St-Felix de Kingsey. Frances was just a young teenager when my parents (newly wed) moved there. As far as I can remember, Frances had always been part of their lives until my mom passed away in 2012. My mom always thought of Frances as a very special friend. Somehow the language barrier was never an issue. They remained best friends forever. I was actually just at the Wales Home/Richmond this past 11 Nov to attend the Remembrance Day. Had I known about her condition, I would have visited her. May she Rest In Peace. She will always have a special place in our heart. The entire Arsenault family is sending their most sincere condolences.

May my support
warm your heart

My sympathy to the family. I knew Fran when she was on the board of Townshippers'. This was just one of her many valuable contributions to the community.
