Eric Joseph Royden Gibson
1968-2024
With deep sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of Eric Joseph Royden Gibson on Sunday, January 28th, at the age of 55, after a short illness. An unwaveringly devoted husband, father, and friend, Eric’s departure has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him.
Born on February 10, 1968, Eric was a hardworking dedicated man with a steadfast work ethic and an enduring love for his family. His commitment to his loved ones fuelled all that he did, making his departure profoundly felt by those around him.
Eric’s joy in life was found in simple pleasures, particularly in his passion for fishing. Whether casting a line into the waters by Elliot Lake or sharing tall tales over a family fish fry, Eric’s love for fishing and the outdoors was a source of genuine happiness and connection.
As a loving husband to Shelley, a proud father to Tyler, Mégan (William) Nes, and Christopher Nes, a grandfather to three, the son of Clifford and Véronique Gibson of Quyon, QC and brother to Cindy (Adam) Hacker and Katherine (Norman) Gibson, Eric centered his life around family. Together, they created a haven of warmth, laughter, and enduring memories.
He was a friend and mentor to many including his colleagues at the City of Ottawa and will lovingly be remembered by his aunts, uncles and cousins, his sisters- and brothers-in-law, and his nieces and nephews.
Beyond his diligence as a provider and his love of family, Eric was a skilled tinkerer, finding joy in exploring gadgets’ inner workings. His curiosity, resourcefulness, and ingenuity endeared him to those fortunate enough to know him.
To honour Eric, a Celebration of Life will be held on his birthday, February 10th, at the Funeral Cooperative of Ottawa, 419 St. Laurent Blvd, Ottawa, ON K1K 2Z8, from 2 PM-4 PM. Friends, family, and acquaintances are invited to join and reminisce about the laughter, love, and enduring spirit that defined this remarkable man.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of a donation to The Canadian Lung Association at Charitable Giving | Canadian Lung Association, reflecting Eric’s generous spirit and commitment to others.
May Eric Joseph Royden Gibson’s soul rest in eternal peace, his memory inspiring those fortunate enough to have known him.
