1929 - 2024

Dorothy C. Mallen – Hanna passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2024, at the age of 94.

Predeceased by the late Gebran A. Hanna.

Adored daughter of the late Kannan Mallen and Minne Khoury of Lawrence Massachusetts.

Loving mother of Karen Hanna-Nesrallah (Marwan). 

Devoted Sitho of Anthony, Jonathan, Elias, and Nicholas.

Dear sister of the late Dr. John Mallen (Yvonne),and the late Shafie Mallen (late Najla)

Dedicated sister-in-law of the late Nehme Hanna (Souad), Najib (Samia), Nakhle (Liana) of Gatineau; Mitri (Marcelle), Kaissar (Maggie), Ninette (late Tannous), Katar (late Karim), Souad (late Fouad) of Lebanon.

Dorothy pioneered and operated the first Lebanese bakery from Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. Equipped with her wits in business, ethics, integrity and faith Hanna’s Bakery pita bread became the first Lebanese bread sold in mainstream supermarkets and is still going strong.

Backed by this legacy Dorothy leaves behind her greatest triumph in a deep-rooted family who she loved from her stepchildren Mitri and Nadine Hanna to all her nieces,nephews and cousins in the United States, Canada, and Lebanon.

The family will receive relatives and friends on  May 28, 2024 from 1 pm to 3 pm at Saint Charbel Parish, Ottawa, Maronite Catholic Church, 245 Donald Street Ottawa, Ontario followed by a Funeral Service. Burial service to be held end of week at St. Anthony’s Maronite Church, Lawrence Massachusetts.

Memorial donations may be made to Saint Charbel Parish, Ottawa, Maronite Catholic Church.

Special thanks to CHSLD Vigi de l’Outaouais palliative care unit for their tremendous quality of care and kindness and to the Village Riviera Retirement community for making her final years of autonomy valuable and pleasant.
