DYCK, (Heinz) Dieter

August 12, 1955 – August 30, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected yet peaceful passing at home of our beloved Dieter Dyck (Ottawa, Ontario), on August 30, 2023, at the age of 68. Dear son of Willy and Ilona (née Schaefer, d. 2016), brother of Rudy (Angela Duizer), Walter (d. 1992) and Marion (Rod Whitford). Proud Uncle to Joshua, Joel (Marilyn Zaporteza), Rebecca and Michael Whitford. Cherished Great Uncle to Alexis and Jaden Dyck and Matilija Dyon; loved by aunts, uncles, and cousins, in Canada and abroad.

Dieter was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on August 12, 1955. After the family moved to Ottawa, growing up in Playfair Park, he graduated from Canterbury High School (1974). He then attended Carleton University, completing a Bachelor of Music (1980), and a Bachelor of Physics (1987).

Dieter was a gifted musician of deep faith, who loved to share his music and poetry. Beyond his artistic nature, he also enjoyed thoughtful and analytical discussion, drawing on his inquisitive mind and scientific knowledge. He was a devoted member of Ottawa Mennonite Church, generously contributing to the life of the congregation. He was always willing to lend a hand, to listen, and to offer support and encouragement. Dieter loved nothing more than a family gathering, which he never failed to attend. Despite his life struggles, he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to share in the memorial service, to be held at Ottawa Mennonite Church, 1830 Kilborn Avenue, on Thursday, September 7th at 1:00 PM (Zoom link available upon request). An informal reception will follow, in the fellowship hall.   In lieu of flowers, donations to The Ottawa Mission would be appreciated.

The Dyck Family

Dear Willy, Rudy and family, Marion and family,

Please accept our heart-felt condolences.
Georges and I are so very sad for the unexpected loss of Dieter. We had countless conversations with him; on the driveway shovelling snow, in the back yard over the fence, when he was cutting the grass for my mother, when he would drop in on our dogs when we were away for the day, through emails etc. etc. He was very smart, sensitive, and thoughtful.

We remember how musical he was, and he came over one night to play guitar with Georges. He was a natural. He was also conflicted at times, about life decisions, and could be hard quite on himself.

I hope and pray that in the last few years he knew how much people cared about him. He had recently said (when I asked about his Ukrainian family) "Oh, they're a blessing, they're a blessing". I had never seen him so pleased. I'm so happy he had that joy in his heart. Rest in peace Dieter - you'll me missed. Carolyn & Georges

Family Dyck

My condolences to Mr Dyck and his family on the loss of your Dieter.
May your constant Faith sustain you throughout.

Dieter and I regularly exchanged pleasantries when I lived closer by in Beacon Hill.

A year or so after I relocated, our paths crossed again; this time at one of my gardening circles.
That's when I discovered how much he knew about plants, (and different topics of the day)!
I will definitely miss those chats with Dieter.

May you be at peace, Dieter.

Family of Dieter Dyke

With much sadness, yet joy and peace in my heart, knowing that brother Dieter passed with the Word of God opened to him, at the time of his passing. Oh, what a glorious comfort to those that love Dieter, in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
May our Lord God remind and comfort us all of these Everlasting Words:

King James Bible
2 Corinthians 5:8
“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”

Brother Terry and all Dieter’s fellowship brothers,

My thoughts are with you in this sad time.
