Jenny and family
My heartfelt condolences to the family. He was such a joker and I have fond memories of Derek. A great guy!
With great sadness, the family of Derek Paul Magill lovingly shares the story of his life and passing. Derek left us on April 23, 2023 after a brave battle with heart and kidney disease at the Ottawa Civic Hospital at the young age of 59. Derek was the beloved husband of his late wife Carol (d. 2022) whom he cherished and missed deeply. He leaves behind his son Michael and his children with Sonya, Joshua, Nathan and Noah; his daughter Jennifer and her children with Ken, Liam, Grace, Audrey and Jack; his daughter Melanie and her children Rebecca and Seth; and his son William and his children with Madison, Wrenley and Malcolm. Derek also leaves behind four beautiful great-grandchildren, Sophia, Lilah, Julianna and Everleigh. He is predeceased by his loving parents Margaret and Patrick Magill and sister Denise of Ardrossan, Scotland. His sense of humor and magnetic personality will be greatly missed by many more family and friends who loved him. Derek was a true Scotsman and the life of the party. Born in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland, he was a lively, fun loving and rambunctious wee laddie. Derek moved to Canada in 1986, where he met and fell in love with Carol and began his life as a family man. Derek’s family meant the world to him. He loved life, having a good time and lived in the moment. Derek was a hardworking man who took pride in his accomplishments. He loved music, the drums, the soccer field and the local pub. Our family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the ICU and Vascular team at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. A Celebration of Life for family and friends in honour of Derek will be announced and held at a later date.
