SWEET LANE, Cora
1922 - 2021
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Cora Mildred Sweet Lane, in her 100th year. Mom died with family at her side at CHUS Fleurimont on Tuesday, January 26th where she received exceptionally compassionate care. Cora was predeceased by her husband Ronald (Bud] Lane in 2004 and her grandson Sean in 2017. She leaves to mourn her children: the twins, as she always called them, Kathryn (Ted) and David (Christine), and Nancy (Stephen). As well, her four grandsons who adored her: Bret (Tamara), Christopher (Nathalie), Justin (Karine) and Michael (Allison); and 10 great grandchildren: Alec, William, Lennox, Hudson, Alicia, Emma, Jamie, Owen, Declan and Stella. Mom was born in Curling, Newfoundland in 1922, one of six children. After enlisting in the armed services, she met Dad in PEI and moved to Lennoxville when the war ended. They lived in the same home there for the remainder of their lives. She worked for the United Church, the Eastern Townships School Board and Lennoxville Elementary School. Mom was very active in volunteering in Lennoxville with Meals on Wheels, the Women’s Center, Uplands Museum, the Canadian Cancer Society Daffodil Campaign and likely others that we don’t even know about. She was particularly passionate about and committed to the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope, participating in 37 of its events, either running or walking, including last fall on the river trail that she and many others helped to develop. Mom loved her gardens, quilting, exercise, travel and woodworking. She didn’t learn to swim until she was a grandmother when it became a daily routine just a few years ago. She started running with her good friend Ruth at about 50 and participated in many half marathons over the following decades. She has been up in helicopters and shot the Lachine Rapids at age 75. Mom was always fully engaged in life, always looking forward and never missing an opportunity to try something new. But mostly she loved her family and let us know that often. The family will be forever grateful for her wonderful neighbours and friends Ann, Glenys, Pam and Stuart. A private service and burial will take place once circumstances allow. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name would be appreciated to the Lennoxville Elementary breakfast program, the Terry Fox Foundation or Lennoxville Community Aid.
