FREDRO-BONIECKI, Charles (Wladyslaw Karol)

1928 - 2023

It is with deepest regret we announce the passing of Władysław (Charles) Fredro-Boniecki

Charles passed away peacefully on June 1st, 2023, at the age of 94 in Aylmer (Gatineau) Quebec.

He was the loving husband of the late Huguette Fredro-Boniecki (née Galipeau), father of Stefan and André (Julie) and dear Dziadziu of Izabela, Jakob, Ethan, Edward and Kalie and older brother to Teresa Sulimirski (Witold).  Predeceased by his parents Edward and Zofia Fredro-Boniecki. He was uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Charles was born in 1928 in Warsaw Poland. Shortly after the outbreak of WW2, he was deported, along with his mother and sister, to Barnaul in Siberia Russia. After being granted safe passage to Tehran with his mother and sister, he spent much of his teen years in several countries in the middle east serving in the Polish military’s cadet Corps. His travels then took him to many countries throughout Europe such as the UK, France, and Italy where he had a variety of adventures. After spending a 3-year period in West Africa, he again found himself in Europe looking for a place to settle, with the thought of going to Canada to see what adventures where waiting for him.

After a brief period in the United States, he moved to Toronto, and subsequently to Montreal where he worked at Expo 67 as a manager of the theme park LaRonde, where he met his dear wife Huguette. Shortly after the conclusion of Expo, he began his career at Transport Canada which required Charles and his young family move to the Ottawa area where they settled in Aylmer just across the river.

He enjoyed a quiet life with the simple things such as good food and wine, but mainly spending time with family and friends. Charles was a talented woodworker and self-taught cabinetmaker, as well as taking on various challenges such as building a boat.

He will be greatly missed.

For those who wish to do so, in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Maison Mathieu Froment-Savoie.

A Masonic ceremony and celebration of life will be held on Friday June 23rd, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Coopérative Funéraire de l’Outaouais, located at 95, boul. de la Cité-des-Jeunes in Gatineau, Quebec (Hull sector).

We would especially like to thank all the staff and volunteers at the CHSLD Renaissance in Aylmer for their compassion and dedication.
