WATOREK, Andrzej

1950 - 2024

Family of Andrzej Watorek is sad to announce his passing on November 9, 2024, after a resilient battle with illness.

Visitation will take place at the Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative in Kirkland Lake, on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 9:30 am. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 am at Holy Name Church, in Kirkland Lake. Luncheon will be offered at the parish hall after the Mass.
Andrzej was born in the small town of Dobczyce, in southern Poland on April 25, 1950, and was raised in a large family of 8 siblings. He was educated in Krakow, Poland, where he met his wife Miroslawa (Mira). They married in 1972, and in 1973 they welcomed their son, Maciej (Matt). Andrzej worked as a chemist until 1988, when he immigrated to Canada, along with the family, to seek a better life. Here, he worked hard at various jobs, most recently at a galvanizing factory, until retirement. Andrzej was an avid bridge and chess player, and one of his favourite pastimes was picking wild mushrooms. He loved playing, and later in life, watching sports.

Andrzej was a devoted and religious family man, generous and giving, who deeply cared for his wife Mira, who was the love of his life; his son Matt; daughter-in-law Isobel; and two cherished grandsons, Tomas and Ian.

Andrzej is survived by his wife Mira, son Matt (Isobel), his grandsons Tomas and Ian, 2 sisters and 3 brothers, many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, an older brother and an older sister.

Final interment will take place in the spring of 2025 at the Kirkland Lake Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made to the Holy Name Church in Kirkland Lake, or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Kirkland Lake Family Health Team and Kirkland Lake Hospital for the care he received there.

Matt, Isobel and sons

I am so sad for all of you with the loss of Matt’s first teacher, and for your sons missing out on the grandfather’s stories of his life as a child in Poland. Loss of a loved one can never be replaced with anything! We mourn losing them from the day of their death until our very own death. In life we remember their teachings and the fun times we shared. This is a blessing because it saves us from eternal sadness in life. Condolences to his wife, children, grandchildren and all other relatives and friends.
