The family of Walter Stevens announces the passing away of this fine man after a hard fought battle with dementia on April 23, 2012 in his 83rd year. His last moments were surrounded by his loving family. Walter is survived by his wife of 58 years Margaret (Pope), daughter Cathy (Nick DeNobile), two sons Mark (Carmen) and Paul (Linda) and his six adored grandchildren Sarah and Megan, Sebastien and Kelly, Courtney and Cole. Walter is also survived by sister Marge (the late Ed Smith), Edna (Ouellette) and brothers Weldon (Jacqueline) Jim (the late Noreen) and Bill (Joyce). He was predeceased by sister Isobel (the late Doug Dykeman). Uncle Walter will be sorely missed by his many nieces and nephews. Walter worked at Dyson and Armstrong from 1956 to 2003 and was coowner with his brother Bill from 1969. He greatly valued the many enduring friendships he developed during his career. Walter was also a devoted supporter of the Wales Home Retirement Residence. He served on numerous committees and was president from 1996 to 1998. Walter was always actively involved with the Trenholm and the Richmond Melbourne United Churches. Walter was a member of the St.Francis Masonic Lodge # 15 where he worked on various community projects. Walter was always interested in local communities and served on the St.Felix de Kingsey council for many years. He was a man that never believed in having idle moments and taking time to put up his feet. At the centre of his life, Walter was a family man, greatly loved and proud of his family. At any opportunity he loved to be in the presence of his grandchildren and it brought out his youthful side. He believed in family, the value of work, fun, striving to do your best, having a positive outlook and looking for the good in everyone. Those of us who were blessed to know and love Walter will miss him and strive to honour the memory of this gracious and honorable man. Visitation will be at Cass Funeral Home, 295 rue Principale Sud, Richmond, Friday April 27, 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00. Funeral service will be held at Trenholm United Church, rte.243 N. Trenholm, Quebec, Saturday April 28, at 2:30. Visitation with precede the service, beginning at 1:00 at the church. Special thanks to the many family and friends who supported Walter and his family throughout his battle. Also the care and compassion he received from the CLSC and his entire health care team was invaluable and greatly appreciated.
