SAMOJLENKO, Walentyna

1923 - 2024

It is with sadness that the family of Walentyna Samojlenko announces her passing on August 25, 2024, at the age of 101.

Walentyna was born on July 4, 1923, in Ukraine to the late Warwara (Lisizka) and Wasyl Schemetilo. Along with her son Dimitrij Tesluk, they immigrated to Kirkland Lake in 1950. She was a wonderful woman who enjoyed gardening and looking after her plants. Walentyna had a passion for cooking, especially perogies and cabbage rolls. She took great pride in caring for her beloved cockatiels (which will be relocating to TPR in her honour).

She was predeceased by her husband Ivan Samojlenko in 2001; son Dimitrij Tesluk in 2020 and her close friends Fenia and Dmytro Maykowych. Walentyna is survived by her granddaughter Tanya Schumacher (Al Frappier) of Kirkland Lake; great grandsons Nicholas Schumacher (Sarah Gauld) of Eganville and Christopher Schumacher of Kirkland Lake; daughter in law Irene Pelchat of Kirkland Lake and her special family members Olga Kmyta and Gordon Schumacher.

A Service to honour Walentyna's life will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024, from the Chapel at St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre & Cemetery (1280 Dundas St. West Oakville, ON.). She will be laid to rest in the cemetery next to her cherished husband and beloved son.

Donations in Walentyna's memory may be made to the Teck Pioneer Residence Activity Fund (cheques can be mailed directly to TPR 145 A Government Rd. E. Kirkland Lake, ON. P2N 3P4).

Those who could count Walentyna/Valya as a friend knew that fortune smiled on them. Her loyalty, authenticity, and devotion were prized. Valya's sense of fun uplifted one and all. She loved fiercely, as her next of kin know better than anyone.

Valya was a treasured lifelong friend to my father, Oleksii, and through him, a dear friend to our family.

I esteemed her highly and was grateful to her for the love she extended to me.
We treasure our memories of time spent with Valya. Andrea Mozarowski and Peter Palijenko
