Sharon MacRae

1941-2025

Sharon MacRae passed away suddenly at her home in Ottawa on February 5th, 2025. She was 83 years old. Born in Ottawa on March 15, 1941, she was the only child of John McAuley and Rose Blanche Foisy McAuley. She was a loving and dedicated mother to Jeffrey and Shannon (Ravi Ramkissoonsingh).
She attended Immaculata High School, St. Patrick’s College, and Teacher’s College, later forging a successful career with the Ottawa Catholic School Board. She was loved by generations of students and their parents. A lifelong learner and knowledge-seeker, she spent her retirement years learning new skills and volunteering by tutoring students in the community.
Headstrong and fiercely independent, Sharon was known for her sense of humour and immense resolve. As a lover and protector of all animals, she spoiled her “grandcats” to the ends of the earth, and she enjoyed visiting them during her retirement years. She also enjoyed crafting, and she was never one to pass up a bargain on DIY crafting materials!
She will be greatly missed by her children, her son-in-law, and friends from the Ottawa West community. The family extends special thanks to neighbours--especially Ann, Cheryl, Farida, Beth, and Rob--for their years of friendship and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the future. Please contact her daughter Shannon at smacraeopseusteward@gmail.com for further information.
In tribute to Sharon’s passion for animals, donations to The Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue (https://www.oscatr.ca/in-celebration) would be appreciated.
“Money talks, but it don't sing and dance and it don't walk, and long as I can have you here with me, I'd much rather be forever in blue jeans.” -Neil Diamond

Shannon and family

I have never met you in person as I am in the UK , but know you through social media and feel like I have known you all my life. Shannon, you are truly inspirational and despite your own health situation at present, continue to make me laugh with your tales of your beautiful cats antics. I can only imagine, your lovely Mum must have been YOUR inspiration and shaped you into the amazing human that you are. I am sending so much love and strength to you and hope you are able to comfort yourself with loving memories of your Mum.
Bless you Shannon Ravi and your furbabies ️

Michel and I are very sorry for your loss. To lose a mother at any age is hard but I know you have many happy memories (and funny stories) which I look forward to hearing.

From what I've read about both your parents, you inherited fabulous genes from each of them. How lucky you are. Not many displays wonderful qualities that I've seen in you. I know you're hurting but take those cherished memories you have from both to comfort you. Stay strong and nurture yourself . Enjoy your fur babies cuddles and sure Ravi's too. RIP Sharon

Shannon (Ravi) & Jeffrey

Your mom was an amazing neighbour; always ready to play with our pup Darcy when we were at work a bit too long. Sharon’s sense of humour & love of animals made her someone we connected with from the time we settled in next door. She was a helpful, kind and easy neighbour to have, we were so fortunate to have her right next door. Her laugh is so clear in my memory
Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. She will be missed! Beth, Rob, & canine companion Jack (whom she adored!!)
