CAMPBELL, Roy
1934 - 2024
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Roy Campbell, Monday April 9th, 2024, at Extendicare Kirkland Lake, with his daughter Mary, by his side.
Roy is predeceased by the love of his life Betty (Elizabeth) in 2022, his parents Barbara and Wilfred, and his sister Barbara Jean McKenzie. Left to mourn are his children Mary (Brad Morin), Barbara Campbell, Brenda (Peter Lee) Hansen, Grandchildren Tristian, Arrionna, Violet, Brandon, Nicholas, and Druscilla, Great Grandchildren, and brother-in-law James McKenize. Also, his extended adopted children Clay and Ashley Litner, and honorary grandbaby Abbigail. With a special mention of his Kitty Jenny, who is left to morn his absence.
Roy was born in Dunnville, Ontario in 1934. His family moved north in 1936 to Charlton-Savard, where Roy was raised on the farm, where his parents grew and sold vegetables and flowers to the community of Charlton. In the 50s and 60s, Roy work in the logging field. In the 70s he was employed by Maccassa Mine, where he worked 26 years, till his retirement in 1996. In 1972 he met and married his soul mate Betty. They moved to Round lake to raise their three daughters and in 1984, they had the sorrow of watching their home and all their possessions destroyed in a house fire. At this time, there was no fire department in Round lake, and they had to stand and watch their worldly possessions burn. Roy was on the committee that formed the Round lake and area Volunteer fire department, where Roy resided as fire chief for many years, till 1999, when they sold the family home and moved. Roy was involved with the salvation Army, serving at the league of Mercy Secretary from 1983 till 1998, where he visited drinking establishments in Kirkland lake and area spreading the Lord’s word. In 1987 Roy was diagnosed with Diabetes, and became a board member of Diabetes Association, Kirkland lake with Barb Keily, where he spent many years spreading the awareness of the disease. He was as a Lions member from 1997-1999. Roy had a great many passions, including his love of animals.
Mary would like to express her many thanks to closing the gap psw services, VON, and Donna Young from home and community care, till his placement in Extendicare. To the Extendicare staff, for all the wonderful care provided, from his PSW’s, to nursing staff, especially in his final days, and to the staff on nightshift, that provided exceptional care and comfort in his final hours.
As per Roy’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no funeral, as he wanted people to celebrate his life while he was with us. Donations can made to Extendicare Activity Department.

Even before I met Betty and Roy I knew I would love them, because I already loved you Mary and your family. I knew that 2 very special people raised a very special daughter. I 'm so sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He always greeted me with a warm smile and a big hug. We shared a lot of laughs. I wish I could have spent more time with them. They are together again and will live in our hearts forever. See you at the celebration of life. Sending love and hugs.

Your father/grandfather and PetDad, was an amazing man! I always looked forward to seeing him everyday at work to give him the hardest time! We had many great laughs and med pass with him was always so fun!! Especially noon med pass! . I will especially cherish and miss that moment the most!!! His feistiness was always so fun to deal with!!! He knew who was boss!!! My prayers are with you during this time!!! Xo

Condolences on the passing of your Dad. He was a nice man who I enjoyed visiting
at the senior home, Sunday evening church, and earlier years at the Salvation Army
when it was on Allen Ave. I remember how well he looked after his diabetes, and his
long life was a testament to that. I also remember when he wore the Salvation Army
uniform proudly, and served the local church with his buddy Jim Simpson for many
years. I remember his retirement party from the mine that Betty and you girls put on for him and the great cooking. He would always ask, "How is your old man?" when I saw him at evening church because he liked people and was friendly. Roy could give a good hug, and he welcomed visitors at the senior home. I am sorry for your loss, but I know he loved God and was ready for eternity. Hold on to the good memories of Roy, because there were many. May God's peace be with you at this time of sorrow.

I workedcwith Roy at the MaCassa mine 1974- 1977. I wad aShiftboss and Roy was a Tramming Leader. Roy was a conscientious guy who did a great job. I used to Run into Roy every once in a while and talk about Macassa.
