Claire
Mes sincères condoléances à toi et à ta famille pour la perte de ton frère
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Robert Hammond, a husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend, at the age of 93.
Predeceased by his wife Helene Hammond (D’Aoust), parents Joseph Hammond and Reona Hammond (Valiquette), brothers Ray (Louise), Rolly (Collette) and Ronald. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Lynne, Gilles (Jocelyne) and beloved grandsons, Stephan (Isabelle), Alexandre (Michelle) and Jeremie (Sarah). He will be sorely missed by his sister Claire and brother, Patrick (Trudy) as well as by many nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.
Bob grew up in lower town Ottawa working alongside his father in the family repair business, which led him to many more construction projects, such as the family cottage along the Ottawa River, the first family home with Helene on Raymond Street in Gatineau and the family Hobby farm in Gatineau.
In the late 60’s and 70’s, Bob was influential in the sports development in Gatineau as well as the first arena (Baribeau). He received recognition in 1970 with a Man of the Year award for his efforts. Bob was employed for many years at G.H Wood Ltd in Ottawa which led him and Helene to create the family business, PSP Ltd in 1979 which made its mark in the industry.
Bob was most happy at the family farm, building structures that housed the horses, poultry and bovine and a large barn where the children played for hours.
The farm was always the meeting place for the families: weekends, Christmas, cross country skiing events and even the Hammond Family Olympics.
The cottage was also a special place to share with family and friends.
With Bob’s strong work ethic as well as being a visionary, he knew what he wanted and where it would lead him.
Bob passed on his strengths, vision and values to his family and a legacy that will continue for generations to come. He will be lovingly remembered by so many.
The family will receive condolences on Wednesday August 31st, 2022 from 2 pm to 5 pm and from 6:30 pm to 9 pm at the Coopérative funéraire de l’Outaouais, 1369 de La Verendrye Blvd. West in Gatineau. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 1st, 2022 at 10 am at the same location. The family will receive condolences as of 9:30.
