It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Chartrand, on June 4, 2022 at the age of 88. Son of the late Arthur Chartrand and the late Rose Hebert.
He was the loving husband of Lilianne Scanlan of 66 years and loving and proud father of the late Richard Chartrand (Rollande Picard), Rose Delparte (Paul), Carole Irwin (Steve), Lorraine am Rhyn (Jost), Daniel and Paul Chartrand. He was also the loving grandfather of 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, he will be greatly missed.
Robert spent his life devoting his time to the betterment of his community. He spent most of his career working at Inco in Sudbury, where he was Vice President of Local 6500 from 1967-1973 and worked tiressly to improve the salaries, benefits and working conditions of his fellow workers. He volunteered for CNIB and Red Cross when he retired. He was always willing to help his fellow man in need and became a well-known pillar of his community.
There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 2 p.m., E.D.T., at la Coopérative funéraire de l’Outaouais, Pavillon Lac-Beauchamp, 750 Maloney Boulevard East in Gatineau, QC J8P 1G4. Special thank you to La maison Mathieu Froment-Savoie’s doctors, nurses and volunteers who made his final months very comfortable. He died peacefully and with dignity.
