GUPPY, Norman

1949 - 2023

Norman Charles Guppy

On August 8th, we lost a very special man in our lives.

The dog whisperer leaves behind his loving wife Cathy, daughter Melanie Guppy (Corey), sisters Debbie Charette (Raymond) and Gina Langis (Guy), many nieces and nephews and his loving puppy Dakota.  He was predeceased by his father Leonard and mother Laurette Guppy and by his sister Diane Doyon and her husband Peter.

Known for starting family “discussions” and leaving for bed to chuckle over the ensuing arguments and deliberately locating a tent or ice shack where he knew his dad would find it problematic, he was always ready for adventures with his family, friends and especially his two brothers-in-law, Raymond, and Guy.

He was never lost; he always knew where he was but not necessarily where he intended. His favourite expression was “I know this place like the back of my hand”. You can imagine where that got us.

A world traveler, he made friends wherever he went.  He touched us all in his own unique way and he will be missed.

Thank you to the amazing doctors, nurses and staff in emergency and on the 3rd Floor, unit B at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.  I don’t know how we could have made it through this without you.  You took special care of him and it is so appreciated.

A Memorial Visitation for Norman will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Martyn Funeral Home (464 Wyld St. North Bay) with a Memorial Service to follow in the Martyn Chapel on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 11:00am.

If you wish, donations to the Callander Legion #445 or the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation or a charity of your choice would be welcomed.

I knew Norman in the motorcycle days We rode together. He had the biggest bike of our group, a 250 Yamaha Catalina. I have a picture of us on our bikes somewhere. He was a great friend and will be remembered even though i haven't seen him in years.

I just saw this and am very saddened. Norm impacted my life as a young man greatly and I have never forgotten him or the many things he taught me. In fact I thought about him often although we lost touch in last 2-3 years. I was hoping to see him again - that will have to wait.
