Noël Firmin Guimond passed away peacefully after a brief stay at Extendicare in Kirkland Lake on September 18th, 2023.
Noël was born on a family farm in Saint-Bruno-de-Guigues on December 24th, 1928, the oldest of seven children, before the family moved to Rouyn-Noranda. He, his wife and kids were residents of Kirkland Lake since 1957.
Noël was predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years Anita in 2018, his parents Englebert Guimond and Yvonne Coté, brothers Rhéal and Normand (Thérese), sister Carmen (Frank), and great-granddaughter Siobhan McKay.
He is survived by children Mike (Suzanne) Guimond, Lise (Larry) McKay, Luc Guimond (Deborah Hutchison) all of Kirkland Lake, grandchildren Jamie McKay (Angus, ON), Ian and Kaitlyn McKay of Kirkland Lake, Darian (Mikey), Baylee, and Lanie Guimond of Kirkland Lake, and great-grandson Cayden McKay (Angus, ON).
He also leaves behind brothers Ghislain (Henriette), Firmin (Jeanine), Gilbert (late Pauline), sisters-in-law Mae Bilodeau, and Jeanne Aquino, as well as many nieces and nephews throughout Ontario and Quebec. Noël will also be greatly missed by his coffee and hockey buddy Jean-Guy “Tiger” Desgagnes.
He was an active member of the communities in which he lived, acting as volunteer firefighter, sitting on boards and committees including Club Richelieu, Club 50+, the Police Services Board, and specifically the Teck Centennial Library Board for over 60 years.
As the oldest of seven children, he left school at an early age to provide for his family. He would form his own business as an insurance salesman in Rouyn-Noranda and Kirkland Lake.
As a long time lover of hockey, he played intermediate hockey for the “Eclairs de Rouyn-Noranda”, coached minor hockey, and later in life would often be seen going to Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Kirkland Lake Gold Miners games.
Noël’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Blanche River Health, and Extendicare for their care and comfort to Noël and his family in his final days. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A Memorial Serivce will be held on Saturday September 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at the Timiskaming Funeral Cooperative (formerly French Funeral Home) at 111 Burnside Dr in Kirkland Lake. There will be a visitation one hour prior and a luncheon to follow at the funeral home. All are welcome to come share in the memory of Noël.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Museum of Northern History or the Teck Centennial Library.
May you find inner strength to accommodate the loss caused by the physical passing of your father who lived such a remarkable and long life of service to so many. May the example he left uplift you and provide many inspiring memories to lighten your grief. May his love for all of you light your way forward... May his memory be a Blessing to all of you.

Deepest sympathies. I have fond memories of "Monsieur Guimond" when I was growing up in Kirkland Lake, back in the 60s, 70s and 80s. He and Anita were great guests when they visited my parents on a number of occasions. Both enjoyed good food and good wine. Noel loved to laugh and make everyone else laugh as well. In fact, I don't remember him ever being in a bad mood.
