SMART, MacKay Mac

1929 - 2015

MacKay (Mac) Smart passed away quietly in his sleep on March 28th, 2015, at the Englehart and District Hospital, after a 3-month struggle with congestive heart failure. Mac was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on December 9th, 1929 to Edgar & Winona Smart. The family moved to the Englehart area while he was still very young. As a young boy, Mac recognized that he was a sinner and he accepted Christ as his Saviour. When he was a teenager, he decided to put God first in his life. He committed his life to God, and began to make the Bible the guidebook for his life. In 1955, at the age of 25, Mac married Jean Buchanan. Together they raised four children. As a stone mason/bricklayer, Mac found that he needed to relocate periodically, so the family moved to the Toronto area and then back to Englehart a few times. Wherever he was, Mac`s desire was to reach out and tell people of the love of God and of the salvation that is offered through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Mac lost his beloved wife, Jean, to cancer in 2005, but he carried on alone, trusting God to meet his needs. Predeceased by his wife, Jean, his daughter, Ruth, his brother, Eugene, his sister, Elizabeth (Bette), Mac is survived by 3 children: Marc (Marianne) Smart, Kaye (Daniel) Kancir, Wayne Smart, son-in-law, David Coates, and 7 grandchildren: Samuel, Julie, Edgar, Troy, Bradly, Cody & Brittany. He is also survived by his sister, Muriel Osborne, of Englehart. Mac will be resting at the McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart. Visitation will be Monday, March 30th, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9, and the funeral will be held at the Englehart Gospel Hall on Tuesday, March 31st, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., Mr Don Nicholson of Lindsay, Ontario officiating. In memory contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation will be greatly appreciated. Condolences, contributions and memorial candles may be left at www.mcdonaldfuneralhome.ca.
